VMworld 2019 Europe in Barcelona is guaranteed to wow. From the Sagrada Familia to seaside tapas, and of course, FC Barcelona, this is a city that has it all. And from 4th to 7th November, “all” includes more than 600 expert-led labs, breakout sessions, technical deep dives, and more. Believe us when we say, VMworld 2019 Europe will be one to remember. With so much going on, it helps when someone points you in the right direction. So, without further ado, here is our ‘know before you go’ guide to get you started with all things VMworld Europe.
Pack Smart and Stretch!
Sitting on the Mediterranean’s sandy shores, Barcelona is synonymous with sunshine and sand. But in November, temperatures dip just a little to the mid-60s Fahrenheit (18 degrees Celsius), making layers critical. Beyond that, don’t forget your running shoes because Barcelona is known as one of the most walkable cities in Europe. And with so many sessions to cram in, we promise you’ll be constantly on the move.
Being busy with everything VMworld has to offer can be a little overwhelming without a thorough plan. That’s why it’s so important that you take the time to think about your priorities and schedule accordingly. With hundreds of learning opportunities—not to mention dozens of cultural landmarks to see—mapping out your days will let you get the most from VMworld 2019!
There are some sessions that you shouldn’t think twice about attending, and this year’s Digital Workspace Keynote is one of them.
Digital Workspace Keynote: Becoming a Champion of Digital Employee Experience
When: Tuesday 5th November, 15:00 – 16:00
In the Digital Workspace Keynote, Shankar Iyer, SVP and GM of VMware End User Computing (EUC), and Shawn Bass VP and CTO of VMware EUC, will explain the importance of an excellent employee experience and highlight the opportunity this presents for EUC professionals. We’ll share the ways in which employee experience contributes to business growth and explore some of our newest EUC security innovations. Most importantly, we’ll focus on you, IT professionals, and provide tips on how you can become a strategic business partner by championing employee experience within the enterprise.
We’re always excited for our keynotes, but as companies continue to prioritize the end-user, this year’s Digital Workspace Keynote feels especially important. And as though you needed one more reason to register now, we’ll be handing out prizes to a few lucky winners. We’re giving away three Oculus Quest VR headsets!
VMworld Networking Events
Hopefully, you’ll win one of the prizes, but even if you don’t, there’s still plenty of fun to be had. As always, VMworld Fest features awesome musical acts and great food and drink. Plus, we’re hosting a variety of meet-ups, including Cloud City, where you can network with like-minded peers. Make sure to save Monday for EUC, as we’re hosting a VMworld 2019 Welcome Reception, just for you. Join your EUC colleagues and representatives from VMware to share drinks, discuss sessions and enjoy a relaxing Barcelona evening. Register for this free event in advance to save your spot on the guest list.
We also want to highlight a session that brings a lot of value to anyone attending VMworld, regardless of their area of expertise or interests. Duncan Greenwood will host a panel discussion on Diversity and Inclusion in Tech on Thursday 7th November, from 10:30 to 11:30. The diverse group of panelists from across VMware will discuss navigating large corporations in general before diving into the ways we can foster a culture of inclusion.
And how can we forget Brian Madden and the Second Annual EUC Community Tech Talks & Beer Evening? Brian is hosting, we’ll provide the beer and snacks, and a few members of the community will take the stage to give short talks. The event is free, but space is limited, so you’ll need to register ahead of time.
Top Sessions
Since there’s so much to do, the team has highlighted the 10 top sessions you can’t miss at VMworld. These fill up fast, so make sure to register today. If you want to fill out your schedule even more, then take a look at the Tech Zone sponsored content.
Hands-On Experiences
As those of you who have been to VMworld before know, you’ll do far more than just listen. The Hands-on Labs and Workshops are always crowd-pleasers and can be taken either self-paced or expert-led. You’ll learn, for example, how to manage multi-cloud Horizon deployments or desktop management with market-leading Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management.
Industry Sessions
You can also attend industry-specific sessions. This year, the spotlight is on financial services and retail. In these 90-minute sessions, you’ll hear from industry leaders, peers, and IT strategists as they discuss trends to watch and general best practices.
Hopefully, you now have a little better idea of how to prepare. To stay on top of the latest news and announcements, don’t forget to follow Workspace ONE and Horizon on Twitter. The only thing left to do is show up. We look forward to seeing you there!
