For the second year in a row, VMware has been named a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Unified Endpoint Management Tools. We’re proud of this recognition as we believe it reflects our prominent role in the transition customers are undergoing from traditional PC management (PCLM/CMT) to modern PC management from the cloud and further consolidating management silos to true UEM across mobile, desktop and IoT devices.
VMware Workspace ONE has experienced significant growth from its AirWatch roots, moving beyond mobile device management to enabling an “any app, any device” user experience and extending into PC and Workspace IoT device management and true UEM. With the introduction of Workspace ONE Intelligence last year, customers can now aggregate and correlate data across devices, users, applications, networks, and more, gaining insights into reducing IT cost, improving security, and optimizing user experience. All these capabilities (and many more!) have further strengthened VMware’s UEM offering.
As this is a UEM report, there is a big focus on robustness of PC management capabilities. Workspace ONE addresses the gaps between traditional CMT tools depth of capabilities and those available in native Windows 10 MDM framework by supporting all MDM capabilities and then building net new functions to fill the gaps with CMT. No administrator that is using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) wants to go to co-management with modern management and have less policies and workloads. VMware has addressed the gap by building into Workspace ONE support for 100% of GPOs, Win32 software packaging and distribution, a single app catalog for SaaS, UWP, and Win32 apps, etc. Secondly, Workspace ONE AirLift enables automated transition into co-management with SCCM and Workspace ONE together.
AirLift is a tool that connects to SCCM and recreates its collections, devices, policies, and applications into Workspace ONE automatically, alleviating manual organization structure configuration, MDM agent install, Win32 application repackaging, and GPO translation. This represents a tremendous time savings for IT in moving into a co-management model with UEM and CMT. Every IT team looking to move to modern management should include such automation capabilities into requirements.
In fact, Microsoft recognizes Workspace ONE’s UEM capabilities for Windows10 and our customer base. In May at Dell Technology World, Microsoft and VMware announced joint partnership on Workspace ONE and Office 365, Intune, and AzureAD, whereby Microsoft recognized Workspace ONE as a co-existence partner to SCCM for modern management of Windows 10 devices and gave VMware access to various APIs and tools.
What’s so telling about this UEM report is the focus on all different device types – mobile, PC, IoT, etc. Organizations are embracing heterogeneity. This embrace goes beyond just devices to identity and access services, security tools, IT service management, and more. Embracing customers’ heterogeneous investments is a central tenet of the Workspace ONE platform vision and today we are pleased to offer customers integrations with so many of their critical IT investments.
We believe Workspace ONE is the best choice for your long-term digital workspace platform that optimizes management of all your devices and applications, enables great employee experiences, and leverages your broader IT investments. We are excited about being recognized as a UEM Tools Magic Quadrant Leader for the second year in a row.
