Announcing the Updated Reviewer’s Guide for VMware App Volumes

The Reviewer’s Guide for VMware App Volumes has recently been updated for VMware App Volumes 2.13.1 and includes features that benefit both IT and end users. Use this guide to learn about the architecture and workings of App Volumes, or explore the functionality through the exercises.
Practical exercises walk you through a basic App Volumes installation and configuration, with tips for creating the master image, deployment desktops, and more. The following use cases are demonstrated: creating and updating AppStacks, creating user-installed application (UIA) writable volumes, ThinApp integration, and deploying AppStacks with RDSH applications.
Feature Updates for App Volumes 2.13.1
App Volumes has introduced several new features since the last Reviewer’s Guide. Some feature updates for App Volumes 2.13.1 include
- Concurrent computer-based and user-based AppStack assignments for VDI – Computer-assigned AppStacks are attached at computer startup, and user-assigned AppStacks are attached at login. This improves performance for applications with large registry operations, such as Microsoft Visual Studio, and may also improve login times.
Note: The support for concurrent computer-based and user-based AppStacks applies only to VDI. You can attach only computer-based AppStacks to RDSH servers.
- Limiting AppStack attachments – This feature can benefit an organization’s application licensing-compliance strategy by limiting the concurrent number of AppStack attachments. Configure each AppStack with a maximum number of concurrent assignments, independent of the number of users assigned to the AppStack.
- Simplified troubleshooting – Use the new Troubleshooting tab on the App Volumes Manager to create archives of server logs and configuration files, and download these files to troubleshoot App Volumes. This option simplifies log collection and streamlines troubleshooting efforts.
- Updated Microsoft OS support – App Volumes supports Windows Server 2016 for the App Volumes Manager, and for the App Volumes Agent on servers configured for RDSH or VDI.
