INFOGRAPHIC: Business Mobility Shapes Retail Store of the Future

Mobile payments have increased by four times between 2004 and 2015, and consumers are even paying with their mobile devices. Now that about 70 percent of consumers have access to a smartphone (and 51 percent a tablet), mobile influences the majority of purchases for nearly half of consumers.

Retail shopping is increasingly a mobile experience happening outside of brick-and-mortar retail stores.

In light of these modern, mobile consumer behaviors, what does the retail store of the future look like? Catching up to customer demands, the in-store experience will evolve, according to our newest VMware AirWatch infographic. In fact, mobile already tops retail technology priorities at 70 percent.

Mobile point of sale (mPOS), iBeacon technology, digital signage and customized app stores will help retail stores deliver “anyway-you-want-it,” omnichannel customer experiences. And although just 14 percent of consumers now have access to wearables, by 2020, the Internet of Things (IoT) could have the biggest impact on the modern customer experience.
