Lakeside SysTrack Provides an ‘Assist’ to Get You Moving with Horizon 6

By Aaron Black, Product Manager, End-User Computing, VMware

If you are a sports fan, or simply have the experience of playing a sport that involves passing, you know the value of an ‘assist’. We at VMware have put together an inspiring set of products with the launch of Horizon 6, but we realize that you may be faced with the daunting realities of another upgrade or the business justification for a new implementation. Those of us who build and manage environments are often presented with challenges that are not purely technical or even architectural—the difficulties are providing visibility to what is really happening and providing enough certainty so that people feel comfortable with moving forward with their end-user-computing project. Lakeside Software is a partner that we have been working with for several years; Lakeside can provide customers and partners with a valuable ‘assist’ to help get started with Horizon 6.

VMware has collaborated with Lakeside on an updated VMware Horizon 6 report. Lakeside SysTrack MarketPlace dynamically collects end-user and system characteristics, assesses that information, and produces a VMware-specific report that determines the most efficient way to implement Horizon 6. This is not marketing information we are talking about—this is real information from your environment mapped into real plans that will decrease costs and increase productivity. Our meetings with customers have convinced us that there is far too much mystery about which products the different lines of business actually use and what each LOB says they need and why. With this new report, the actual TCO and ROI figures are measured after the analysis is complete. Using Lakeside SysTrack MarketPlace to gain empirical data about the environment both before and after a Horizon transformation confirms improved end-user health and closes the feedback loop regarding the success of the implementation. The Lakeside tool collects and analyzes data and organizes it into a cohesive summary with supporting detail. For IT and the business, knowledge is power.

The following windows provide context for making implementation decisions, and they have drill-down details that are enlightening to IT and project sponsors.

The bottom line is that the Lakeside assessment tool and the VMware Horizon 6 report can help rule out assumptions and objections and at the same time connect the dots as to the best way for you to implement Horizon 6 with efficiency and effectiveness.
