Today, we’re excited to announce that LG’s new flagship smartphone, the LG G2 just unveiled, will offer Privacy and Business (P&B) Mobile Virtualization, powered by the VMWare Horizon Workspace, on all four major U.S. wireless carriers at launch this fall.

The LG G2 joins the LG Intuition among the leading breed of mobile devices that enable secure separation of personal and work spaces on the same device for bring-your-own-device (BYOD) customers. They build on our collaboration with VMWare on mobile virtualization technology that dates back to the fall of 2010 when LG became one of the first mobile OEMs to publicly embrace the growing trend of BYOD.

According to a fresh global survey of CIOs by Gartner, Inc.’s Executive Programs [1], half of employers will require employees to supply their own devices for work purposes by 2017.

Having work data and applications on a personal device can pose various security risks while raising privacy concerns. A slew of solutions, from mobile device management (MDM) and mobile application management (MAM) to containerization, have emerged in recent years. Many of these solutions require either modifications of the source code or wrapping of applications.  Not necessary with VMWare’s Type II mobile virtualization technology that creates a fully functional, secure and separate Android operation system that can be deployed with corporate applications and customized configurations. The secure work space can be remotely managed, deployed and wiped.

The collaboration between LG and VMWare was recognized with a prestigious International CES Innovations Design and Engineering Award for the Revolution by LGwith VMWare Horizon Mobile. More recently, we’re particularly excited about the launch of VMWare Horizon WorkspaceTM 1.5, which now offers a single integrated management interface to support Android devices alongside other components of the workspace. The integrated solution enables a simplified approach to enterprise mobility and BYOD for corporate IT managers.

LG is at the forefront of BYOD and enterprise mobility, and we take great pride in our mobile technology innovations. In addition to P&B Mobile Virtualization, our latest devices like the LG G2 and Intuition offer enhanced security and manageability features to meet a variety of enterprise mobile customers’ needs.

At LG, we plan to continue to work with the enterprise mobility industry and ecosystem partners to make P&B virtualization and other B2B features available to even more upcoming LG mobile devices. For now, though, stay tuned for the exciting new LG G2 with VMware coming soon through all four major U.S. wireless carriers.
