It’s awesome to start blogging again after a “short” break. Yesterday, VMware and Xangati announced the successful desktop virtualization deployment of our joint customer CB Richard Ellis (CBRE), the world’s largest commercial real estate services firm (read the announcement here). Over the past year CBRE has been rolling out VMware View to more than 2,000 of their employees across multiple locations in Europe and they have plans to extend the benefits of desktop virtualization to their full global workforce.
CBRE selected Xangati VDI Dashboard to help them monitor and manage their network and storage assets while they rolled out their VMware View virtualized desktops across their workforce. Most of the details are covered in the announcement. So, I thought I would take a moment to look at some of the reasons why customers like CBRE are choosing VMware to help address the computing needs of their workforce.
A New Way to Work
There are some fundamental trends that are accelerating the change to a post PC era. For example the number of non-windows devices like the iPad, Mac books, Android devices in the enterprise is exploding. Additionally more and more people are looking to access their applications and data 24×7 from different locations.
Customers are looking for what I would call a “follow-me desktop” while IT is looking to reduce operational costs and manage their desktop and application infrastructure more efficiently and securely. In a nutshell, IT wants to maintain control while providing employees the freedom they want to work the way they want.
While this consumerization of IT is certainly accelerating the adoption of VMware View across the enterprise we are also seeing a significant number of companies take advantage of windows 7 migration to rethink their legacy desktop architecture and adopt desktop and application virtualization to simplify and accelerate their transition to Windows 7. Customers are choosing VMware View and ThinApp because of the simplicity of management and the ease of setting up the entire desktop virtualization infrastructure. VMware also enables IT administrators to provide end users their personalized desktop environments across multiple devices. We are fundamentally providing end users a “non-stop Follow-me” desktop. Imagine getting this level of services in the current Windows PC environment!
The VMware Ecosystem
A key reason we are seeing significant adoption of our products and solutions is the ecosystem of partners that help our customers deploy an end-to-end VMware View architecture. Xangati with its VDI dashboard solution for VMware View provides a great way for our customers to monitor and manage the performance of the network and storage assets proactively. We look forward to continue working with our great ecosystem of partners to provide our customers a complete end to end solution.
