How Important is Security Within IoT?

This article was written by Greg Kaffenberger

According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, “research shows that business customers would be willing to buy substantially more IoT devices if their concerns about cybersecurity risks were addressed.”

The article reminded me of a great conversation I had at VMworld US 2018 with Scott Brindamour from CenturyLink. We talked about how IoT security concerns will always be a primary focus when it comes to our customers.

With this in mind, we make a point of collectively embracing security issues, such as data breaches and theft, with every one of our clients throughout their cloud journey.

Invest in security from the start

When we are able to onboard, manage, monitor and secure a client’s IoT use cases from the edge all the way to the cloud (public, private and hybrid), we can streamline the process and ensure the right protections for sensitive data. In this way, we are able to turn the tables on the important issue of data security from the get go.

IoT and hybrid cloud vendors are popping up almost daily. Within such a crowded marketplace, it’s more important than ever for businesses to educate themselves about IoT security, and to make informed decisions when investing in security solutions.

Multiple cloud options for every user

Hybrid cloud is not one size fits all. It’s important to understand all of the options, and to learn from early adopters and experts building today’s solutions.

With the AWS – CenturyLink – VMware partnership, customers have choices, flexibility and, most importantly, our combined experience in hybrid cloud and IoT security. Expertise is key, and it’s exciting to be working alongside two great companies to really showcase this.

The event will feature Emmy-winning host Katie Linendoll and experts from Amazon Web Services, CenturyLink and VMware as we discuss cloud trends, how to manage the workload of the future, and why not all cloud journeys look the same.
