At VMworld 2017 US, we announced the initial availability of VMware Cloud on AWS. For those that may not be aware, VMware Cloud on AWS brings VMware’s enterprise class Software-Defined Datacenter (SDDC) to the AWS cloud with optimized access to native AWS services. This solution allows customers to take advantage of the global reach and scale of the AWS cloud, while maintaining the same architectural and operational practices as on-premises. IT teams can now quickly derive business value from the cloud through the hybrid experience VMware Cloud on AWS delivers. Digging a little deeper, this service integrates VMware’s compute, storage and network virtualization solutions (vSphere, vSAN, and NSX) along with vCenter management and optimizes it to run on next-generation, elastic, bare-metal AWS infrastructure. Customers will also be able to seamlessly migrate workloads between on-premises and the AWS cloud without conversion and can be assured of the highest levels of compatibility for both traditional and cloud-native workloads.
During VMworld 2017, we launched our VMware Cloud on AWS – Getting Started Hands on Lab and we are very excited to announce it was in the top 3 labs taken at VMworld. Starting today, this lab is available publicly in the Hands On Labs portal and can be taken free of charge.
This lab introduces the new HTML5 based UI of the VMware Cloud on AWS console, allowing you to spin up your own VMware SDDC in the AWS cloud. You will be able to explore the simplified networking interface and learn how to quickly build and integrate a VMware SDDC with your existing environment. This lab is just the beginning and we are already planning for a more advanced lab that will allow full vCenter access and integration with native AWS services in the future.
