Once again, we’re back in Barcelona for VMware Explore! Following up on our announcements from VMware Explore Las Vegas just two and a half short months ago, we are excited to share a range of updates.

Catch up on Las Vegas and make the most of Barcelona

Before we get to the announcements, we have a few reminders.

First, if you need to get caught up on our recent news, head to our Explore Las Vegas announcement overview, read all our Las Vegas blog posts, and visit the video library to watch the End-User Computing (EUC) solutions keynote and the other on-demand recordings

Second, for those of you in Barcelona, be sure to sign up for our EUC solutions keynote at 1:00 PM CET on Tuesday, November 7, as well as the “What’s New in Anywhere Workspace” session at 9:00 AM CET on Wednesday, November 8. You can also check out the full session catalog and read today’s press release

Now, on to the news.

Digital employee experience

Today, we’re unveiling new employee experience capabilities for VMware App Volumes. There are a couple of components. Apps on Demand will let admins offer users multiple versions of apps, and then collect feedback from users. This is useful for doing user acceptance testing for app updates, and it can work entirely within App Volumes. However, data on app usage and the new feedback mechanism will also be routed to Workspace ONE Intelligence for additional aggregation and analysis. This represents yet another step in our app management strategy, as well as our experience management offerings for virtual apps and desktops.

We are also announcing new features for desktop app license optimization, experience scores for web apps, and a new integration to bring Zoom Quality of Service Subscription data into Workspace ONE. These are just the latest new data sources and analysis options we’re adding to Workspace ONE Intelligence. With each new addition, IT teams have more comprehensive visibility, and Workspace ONE has more metrics that can be correlated to perform guided root cause analysis

Unified endpoint management and security

In our keynote today, we’re highlighting what we call “Next-gen macOS Management.” We have been recognized for our macOS management capabilities for quite some time, and the value of combining leading-edge Mac management with a comprehensive unified endpoint management (UEM) platform is clear. But there’s more that can be done.

Freestyle Orchestrator has supported macOS since late 2021, but we’re re-emphasizing it as part of Next-Gen macOS Management because of the huge role it plays in modernizing IT. We are also highlighting our recently launched macOS updates dashboard.

Now, we are announcing a new capability called Hub Health. This will leverage Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub on macOS to help keep management functions and mobile device management (MDM) connections running smoothly. In addition, we are announcing support for third-party security baselines, as well as the continued rollout of support for Apple’s declarative device management (DDM) protocol .

At Explore Barcelona, we’re also building on our partnership with Intel to enhance our vulnerability management capabilities. Back in Las Vegas, we announced that we streamlined remote management integrations for Intel vPro® chips. Now, we’re announcing an integration with Intel Device Health cloud service to pull in vulnerability data from below the OS to help detect and remediate firmware, driver, and hardware vulnerabilities. This will support all Intel® Core™ processors. This broadens the vulnerability management solution we announced at Explore Las Vegas, with visibility ranging from apps and configurations to the operating system, all the way down to the hardware level.

Virtual apps and desktops

At Explore Las Vegas, we unveiled our Apps Everywhere vision, and announced support for a range of new options: App Volumes for persistent virtual desktops, Apps on Demand for Horizon Cloud Next-gen, Apps on Demand for Azure Virtual Desktop RemoteApp streaming, and Apps on Demand for Amazon AppStream 2.0.

Today, we’re proud to share that Apps on Demand for Azure Virtual Desktop RemoteApp streaming and Apps on Demand for Amazon AppStream 2.0 are both generally available, and that App Volumes support for persistent virtual desktops is now in beta. We’re continuing the app news by also announcing that you can now do a trial of App Volumes with Apps on Demand directly through the Azure Marketplace or AWS Marketplace.

Rounding out our virtual apps and desktops news, we are announcing new Horizon Control Plane SaaS services to help automatically keep Horizon agents and clients up to date. And finally, we are integrating Horizon experience data into VMware Aria Ops to give infrastructure teams more telemetry on the impact of issues and changes.

The Anywhere Workspace platform

In addition to our three main solution areas, the Anywhere Workspace platform services for security, unified administration, analytics, automation, and identity are a key focus as we strive toward the concept of an autonomous workspace. These platform services support many of the most compelling use cases in our solutions.

We want everyone to take advantage of these services, so check out our sessions covering Workspace ONE Intelligence, Freestyle Orchestrator, Workspace ONE Access, and other platform services in the Las Vegas video library and the Barcelona session catalog

While this article focused on listing the latest product updates, all of today’s announcements have common goals: Improving experience while simultaneously improving security and modernizing IT. There is a lot more to say about these goals, so for those of you in Barcelona this week, we look forward to connecting in sessions, meetings, the expo hall, and beyond.
