vSphere 5.1 – VDS Feature Evaluation Videos

As you start looking at the new features of vSPhere 5.1 release, you will find substantial improvements to the vSphere Distributed Switch (VDS). In the earlier post here, I briefly talked about the new VDS features and also provided link to the white paper.

To help you evaluate some of the key features of the VDS we have put together following videos:

1)   VMware vSphere 5.1 – Network Health Check

This unique tool helps detect mis-configurations across the Physical switch and VDS parameters. You don’t have to now spend countless hours in troubleshooting network issues caused due to misconfiguration.

2)   VMware vSphere 5.1 – Networking Rollback and Recovery

The rollback feature helps prevent vSphere hosts getting disconnected from the vCenter Server due to misconfigured management network on the Host or VDS. While the recovery feature allows you to recover quickly from any failure scenario by re-configuring management network on VDS using Direct Console User Interface (DCUI).

3)   VMware vSphere 5.1 – Network Config Backup and Restrore

Using this feature you can now take snapshot of your VDS configuration and store it separately from the vCenter database.

I would love to hear your feedback on these videos. Instead of creating 100 page Evaluation Guide, we are trying this new format to deliver information to you. Your feedback is really important as we plan for future collaterals.

I think these “whats new” videos are very valuable. They are concise, and to the point. Better than the typical 40 minute long prior videos VMware has released in the past (which in a work day is too long to spend time on). I never even knew about the rollback feature, so I learned something the first time watching these. Keep them coming! Is this just a networking group initiative or will this learning format be spread around to the other vSphere groups too?

      Hi Vladan and David,
I am so glad to hear that you found the videos valuable.
This initiative is through out our Technical Marketing team, and if you follow the vSphere blog you will see many more posted in near future.
      Thanks for reading and watching.

They’re very intuitive. There isn’t better way to explain new features than through videos. It’s more compact format then you’d have to do the same with many screenshots.

    Keep creating them…!
    Best regards
    Vladan
