A New Chapter

Cross-posted from https://blogs.vmware.com/teamfusion/2023/12/a-new-chapter.html

Now that our acquisition by Broadcom has successfully completed, the integration into our new home is well underway. Our new Senior Vice President and General Manager Krish Prasad, who has been a long-time Desktop Hypervisor supporter, today published some news about how we’ll be transforming the VMware business within our new home at Broadcom.

But one big question that we’ve been hearing from many of our customers is “What will become of the Fusion and Workstation product groups?”

I’m happy to finally be able to answer that with some good news!

In a nutshell: VMware by Broadcom is committed to our focus on the desktop hypervisor products and platform, today and into the future.

Users will continue to be able to purchase and use our favorite desktop hypervisor apps the same way they have been for the past several years. As well, folks will continue to be able to download and use the “Free for Personal Use” editions of Fusion Player and Workstation Player the same way they did previously.

We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to keep the momentum going within the VMware Cloud Foundation Division of Broadcom that our small but nimble team has been able to deliver this year. We brought some amazing features to the product centering around dramatically improving our Windows 11 for Arm support on Macs with Apple silicon. With Fusion 13.5 we’ve made not only getting a copy of Windows 11 for Arm easy to do, but we’ve gone the extra step to add all the necessary drivers for Networking and Graphics before installing the OS to give you the most natural “Out Of Box Experience” of any desktop hypervisor platform. It’s just like opening the lid on a brand new PC.

Added to that our support for DirectX 11 Graphics for native arm64 and emulated x86/x64 apps, ultra-high performance drag-drop and copy-paste, Fusion is the best it’s ever been.

Meanwhile with Workstation on PCs we continue to refine the VMware hypervisor platform at immense scale with new virtual hardware capabilities, improved security features, and important updates for supporting new versions of Linux and Windows.

Because the Desktop Hypervisor apps share the same code as ESXi, they continue to improve each other, combining their strengths with the breadth and reach of the community. Workstation makes ESXi the best it can be by supporting an immeasurable number of scenarios and use cases and allowing us to test new capabilities, while ESXi helps make Workstation the leading desktop hypervisor app thanks to 20+ years of investment in enterprise reliability built into the platform.

All of this is in support of our continued effort to deliver the world’s leading hypervisor platform for the desktop and the data center. It’s only going to get better from here!

We’re all so very proud of what our small team has been able to achieve in the face of all kinds of challenges, so it brings me tremendous joy to share this message.

Happy Holidays my friends, thanks for being along for the ride!
