VMworld 2019 US Day 1 Recap: Tech in the Age of Any

We’re off to an incredible start in San FranciscoSunday was a busy day as attendees arrived and registered. The welcome reception was a hit, complete with an epic performance with Chinese dragon dancersFinally, the Solutions Exchange opened, complete with plenty of decadent drinks and delicious hors d’oeuvres. 





VMworld 2019 officially kicked off on Monday with an inspiring opening keynote and general session by VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger. The day’s theme was “Tech in the age of any,” reflecting the natural tension between choice and complexity. While this is a challenge the IT industry must continually adapt to and face, innovations and breakthroughs are also possible in unexpected ways. One of the key take-home points? Practitioners who master multi-cloud will own the next decade. VMware COO Sanjay Poonen also took the stage during this year’s General Session. Sanjay reiterated the importance of and the results that are possible when you invest in the digital employee experience. He also sat down with VMware customer Freddie Mac and discussed how they’re migrating all their apps to the VMware Cloud of AWS. Sanjay brought the session home sharing about our partnership with Carbon Black, and what becomes possible and even better when you build together. Besides the informative general session, attendees had a blast exploring the rest of the venue. Between the Pac-Man and Mario Kart arcade, the Data Therapy Dog Park, the 5G drone VR game, the gaming lounge, the Relaxation Stationand, of course, the bean bags, it was hard for attendees to pick a favorite activity 





There was also plenty of swag to discovered and obtained, including the renowned VMworld backpack. By the way, if you’re on the lookout for super special and exclusive swag, attendees who attend a Showcase Keynote can take a survey and receive an official VMworld hat. Check out the schedule to find a Showcase Keynote that interests you!  





And, of course, there was the food. Today, attendees consumed: 

  • 1,631 pounds of Swedish Fish at today’s PM Break 
  • 8,261 breakfast sandwiches 
  • 14,500 box lunches 
  • 9,850 beers and 3,013 sodas at the Welcome Reception
