VMworld is never short of inspiring, but Day 2 of VMworld 2018 Europe cast an especially inspirational web that was downright palpable to the nearly 13,000 in attendance—a record-breaking number for VMworld Europe. With the entire conference in full-swing and ready for conquering, Day 2 embodied the sheer awe and potential that VMworld is known for. Let’s get down to the good stuff and dive into what happened during Day 2 of VMworld 2018 Europe.

While today’s General Session marked the last one of this year’s event, you couldn’t have asked for a better finale. Titled “Pioneers of the Possible,” today’s General Session was all about using technology to test the limits of what’s possible. COO Sanjay Poonen kicked off the conversation with a wide variety of customers who have taken the bold first steps into a digital transformation journey. These technology trendsetters shared firsthand why they’ve embraced VMware solutions like our software-defined data center, hybrid cloud, cloud native and digital workspace offerings and how these solutions helped transform their business and look toward the future.

Following that, CMO Robin Matlock sat down in conversation with the incredibly inspiring Martha Lane Fox, a businesswoman, philanthropist and public servant. Baroness Lane Fox founded and executive chairs doteveryone.org.uk, an independent think tank and charity championing responsible technology for a fairer future. Her insightful, motivational and truly thought-provoking perspective on innovation, inclusivity and the development of responsible technology received a rousing response from today’s audience, especially when discussing why women’s involvement in the development of products and services would revolutionize their quality.

Attendees left the General Session feeling lively and emboldened—and it certainly showed. Many took time out of their jam-packed day to complete the VMworld event survey onsite today to share feedback on their experience, which we use to curate content for our future events. Plus, it got them one step closer to a VMworld Challenge achievement, so it was truly a win-win situation for all.

From there, the showcase keynotes began to steal the spotlight, and rightfully so. These 60-minute sessions featuring prominent VMware experts explored visionary ideas and forward-thinking about trends, innovations and solutions in a casual, approachable way for all attendees. This year’s showcase keynotes focused on four business-critical topics: modernizing the data center, integrating public clouds, empowering digital workspaces and transforming networking and security. Whether it was tackling Kubernetes or demonstrating a real cyber hack live, there was no shortage of talking points.

Of course, all work and no play isn’t the way to spend a proper VMworld, and today featured not one, but two big bashes: the Solutions Exchange Hall Crawl and the one and only VMworld Fest. Attendees pregamed with snacks and drinks while mixing and mingling with vendors in the Solutions Exchange before heading straight to the party to end all parties: VMworld Fest. Headlined by The Kooks and also featuring the Counterfeit Stones, dueling jazz pianos and some killer DJs, VMworld Fest allowed attendees to let loose, show off their dance moves, play arcade games, pose for some candid photos and continue riding the snack and drink train. A truly memorable end to another larger than life day at VMworld 2018 Europe.
