Is this your first year attending VMworld? Have no fear! We’ve got everything you need to know. Apart from attending all the keynotes and all of your favorite sessions, we’re sharing some key tips for first-timers.

Content Catalog
To start, before heading to VMworld, be sure to choose what sessions you want to attend. Considering the copious amounts of sessions, trainings and other activities, one person couldn’t possibly attend everything. So, ahead of your trip, utilize our content catalog to plan your must-see sessions. Pro tip: to speed things up, you can search the catalog by topic.

Registration
Get to registration early. With thousands of eager-to-learn attendees, we recommend getting to registration as soon as possible to find the shortest lines! After you’re checked in, you can spend the time you saved getting acquainted with the delicious restaurants Las Vegas or Barcelona offer.

Party like an IT rock star
A very important tip: save your energy for networking events. There will be plenty of after-hour events throughout the week, so ensure you’re well rested before touching down in Vegas!

Swag
Participate in as many booth events, giveaways and contests as possible to get all the free swag! Last year some of the lucky winners walked away with prizes ranging from Amazon Echo to drones— pretty cool, eh? Quick tip: you’ll be able to find most contests via the #VMworld hashtag, so be sure to follow along and join in on lively online conversations during the show!

Hands-on Labs
Remember to check out our Hands-on Labs (often referred to as HoL). We know the best way to learn is by doing it yourself, so our labs allow you to collaborate directly with VMware product experts. You’ll have the opportunity to troubleshoot and walk through any technical difficulties while having someone there to answer your questions and help guide you through the process. Plus, if you participate at VMworld, you get to try new labs before they go public!

Certification
VMware offers numerous certifications to help increase your knowledge and refine your skills for the latest virtualization and cloud tech. The great part is, if you participate in the certification programs at VMworld, you get a discount (up to 50% on some programs). Check out our certification programs and pricing, here.

Welcome to the community
Once you’re officially accepted into the VMware community, there is a wealth of resources available at your fingertips. A great group to know is VMware User Group (VMUG). Follow the community on Twitter (@MyVMUG), and stay up to date on its latest offerings! From webinars to exclusive access to VMware applications and discounts, you won’t want to miss out on this community’s valuable offerings.

Getting around
Headed to VMworld U.S., but not staying in the Mandalay Bay? No problem. Catch a local cab in front of your hotel or simply hop on public transit. In fact, the Las Vegas Monorail is conveniently located behind The Strip connecting various casinos.

What to wear?
Wear what you feel the most comfortable in, even if that means leaving that brand new (yet highly uncomfortable) pair of shoes at home. At the conference, you’ll see people dressed on the spectrum of casual to business dress. Pro tip: be sure to add a few layers since the convention center’s temperature can fluctuate.
