The VMTN Community would not be the thriving ecosystem it is without its dedicated moderators—the people who, year after year, volunteer their time, share their knowledge, and help weave the fabric of the community as it stands today.
As part of this blog series highlighting the moderators behind VMware’s forums, I could not start with anyone other than Luc Dekens.
When I set out to write about Luc, I quickly realized that his contributions could fill an entire book. His influence goes beyond PowerCLI, VMware automation, and extends to the whole Community Ecosystem, But for now, I’ll do my best to summarize just a small part of what makes Luc such a valued presence in our community.

If you ask what has shaped the VMware Community, what has kept it so strong through years of industry transformations and market shifts, the answer is that what truly holds it together are its pillars—people whose dedication, knowledge, and generosity have sustained the community. Those pillars are essential to understanding the foundation.
Luc is one of those pillars.
A True Community Builder
Luc joined the VMware Community in 2005, right when the community was beginning to take shape. He didn’t just participate—he built the PowerCLI forums from the ground up, becoming one of the first moderators and ensuring that knowledge was always accessible to those who needed it.
For over 20 years, Luc has dedicated himself to the VMware Community, answering over 30,000 posts, mentoring the community, ensuring a healthy and welcoming environment for new arrival members, and helping shape PowerCLI into what it is today. If you’ve ever searched for help, chances are Luc’s name appeared in your results, guiding you through solutions with his expertise.
Luc’s participation in the VMware community goes far beyond moderation—he has helped shape PowerCLI, educated thousands, and strengthened the ecosystem for nearly two decades.
Luc’s impact beyond forums:
- Co-author of the VMware vSphere PowerCLI Reference book,—a foundational resource for PowerCLI users worldwide.
- Frequent speaker at VMware Explore and VMUG events, where he generously shared his expertise with the community.
- VMware community member since 2005, marking over two decades of continuous engagement.
- vExpert for more than 10 years, recognized for his deep and consistent contributions.
- Co-founder of PowerShell.org, a nonprofit dedicated to creating educational opportunities for IT professionals.
- Champion in the VMware Rewards Program, acknowledged for his commitment and active participation.
And yet, despite all that he’s given, Luc has remained humble—always ready to teach, to support, and to mentor those seeking guidance. For more than twenty years, he has been more than a moderator.
He’s been a leader, a mentor, and an inspiration to anyone who’s ever worked with PowerCLI or found help through the VMware community.
Thank You, Luc
We were really lucky to have Luc as a moderator, a mentor, and there are not enough words to truly express gratitude for what Luc Dekens has done for VMware’s community
So, on behalf of the VMware Community, the thousands of people who have learned from you, and the future IT professionals who will continue to benefit from your work—
Thank you, Luc.
