There’s no better way to explore something new than by getting your hands dirty. VMware vSAN 6.6 comes with many exciting new updates & features and to help you get acclimated, we’ve developed a Hands-on Lab (HOL) that’s ideal for vSphere administrators looking to learn about deploying and leveraging vSAN to power their infrastructure. Let’s break down the “vSAN v6.6 – Getting Started” HOL:
Overview
The “vSAN v6.6 – Getting Started” HOL offers a summary of vSAN’s capabilities, including key components around deploying hyper-converged infrastructure with vSAN. Participants of this HOL will deploy an initial vSAN cluster, explore the power of storage policy-based management, discover tools for monitoring vSAN health and automating operations, perform both scale-out and scale-up operations on vSAN and stretching clusters across sites, as well as, exploring features such as:
- Data-at-rest encryption
- Deduplication and compression
- RAID 5/6 erasure coding
What’s great is that the lab’s manual guides you on how to quickly navigate through lab content – including click-by-click prompts that act as bread crumbs to help you find your way. In the screenshot below, we show you how to find details of the vSAN storage capacity in just three easy steps:
Lab Modules
The “vSAN v6.6 – Getting Started” HOL includes seven different lab modules. Each module can be taken at a beginner’s or advanced level. Module times can be set for 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes in length. The seven lab modules are:
- vSAN 6.6 Setup and Enablement
- vSAN Scale Out with Configuration Assist
- vSAN All Flash Capabilities
- vSAN iSCSI Target
- vSAN Encryption
- vSAN PowerCLI and ESXCLI
- vSAN Stretched Cluster
If you are already familiar with some aspects of vSAN, you can use the “Module Switcher” to fast forward right to the module of interest. For instance, if you want to explore the vSAN 6.6’s new data-at-rest encryption feature, you can jump straight to that by selecting Module 5.
