A major update to Workload Migration Strategies with VMware Cloud Foundation I co-authored with Health Johnson. This paper outlines how to at scale migrate existing workloads, running on your legacy vSphere infrastructure, into your VMware Cloud Foundation based private cloud.
It covers two common migration approaches and includes live migration options for important tier 1 workload as well as replication-based bulk cold migration options for other workloads. For each approach, it provides an overview, a discussion of the architecture, and a step-by-step example for implementing and performing the migrations. Beyond this whitepaper also ready the vSAN migration guide for information on vMotion and RDM based migrations.
In addition to introducing you to the whitepaper, I’d also like to invite you to join us at VMworld Europe 2019 to learn more about Cloud Foundation workload migration strategies. Be sure to join us for a workshop session Operating the Ultimate Hybrid Cloud with VMware Cloud Foundation [HBI1519TE]) where we will discuss the HCX migration methods covered in the white paper in more detail. Also, feel free to find health and I at the meet the expert’s sessions to ask me your workload migration questions.
I look forward to seeing you at VMworld Barcelona and helping you begin your migration to the hybrid cloud.
