Day 1 of VMworld 2016 is officially in the books! Take a look at what happened today!
General Session
During the day’s General Session, VMware announced the launch of Cloud Foundation – the unified SDDC platform that brings together VMware’s vSphere, Virtual SAN, and NSX into a natively integrated stack to deliver enterprise-ready cloud infrastructure for the private and public cloud.
Cloud Foundation will allow you to take hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) to the next level beyond compute and storage to include networking with VMware NSX for enhanced network security and even greater scalability.
Cloud Foundation will also allow for radically simple operations, enterprise class capabilities, and public cloud extension.

Breakout Sessions
VMworld Day 1 also saw Breakout Sessions open their doors to attendees.
One of the most popular Storage and Availability sessions of the day was STO9424-S, a VMworld Spotlight Session featuring Lee Caswell and Christos Karamanolis of VMware, as well as Christopher Milliet of Chevron. During the session, both Christos and Lee discussed VMware’s vision for HCI and took a glimpse of what the future held for hyper-converged. @vmwarevsan live-tweeted the session – take a look at some of the highlights:

Also on Day 1, was STO8488 – a customer panel discussion of Virtual SAN customers who have successfully deployed hyper-converged infrastructure in their environment for different workloads including virtual desktop infrastructure, tier-1 applications, remote offices, secondary datacenters and more. The customer panel why offered perspective as to why these customers chose VMware hyper-converged software and infrastructure solutions, what factors they took into consideration while making the choice and how they architected their Virtual SAN environment. @vmwarevsan was live on the scene, tweeting the highlights:
