VMware Carbon Black Emerges as a Leader in Frost & Sullivan’s 2023 XDR Report

Today’s volatile threat landscape has made every organization focused on staying a step ahead of attackers. According to Frost & Sullivan’s new Extended Detection and Response (XDR) 2023 report, VMware Carbon Black is more than helping enterprises keep ahead: we’re pushing the industry forward. In the latest Frost Radar Report, VMware Carbon Black emerges as a leading XDR vendor, situated prominently in both of Frost & Sullivan’s Radar categories for innovation and growth.

It’s a great place to be. Frost & Sullivan views XDR as a “unifying tool” in the ongoing battle against sophisticated cyber threats, playing a pivotal role in safeguarding critical business assets and minimizing business risk. This recognition is especially significant in light of Frost & Sullivan’s evaluation of the XDR industry–a sector that’s rapidly flourishing. With a staggering 66.5% surge in revenue recorded in 2022 and a projected compound annual growth rate of 31.2% predicted from 2022 to 2025, it’s clear that XDR’s comprehensive capabilities are not only addressing modern cybersecurity challenges but redefining the cybersecurity market landscape.1

Evaluating XDR excellence

From a group of more than 70 industry vendors, Frost & Sullivan selected 17 leaders who have demonstrated remarkable growth and innovation in the XDR realm. Their analysis takes into account two main metrics that define an XDR leader.

The Growth Index (GI) derives its value from a combination of growth performance, a track record of success, a well-aligned growth strategy, a robust pipeline system, and effective sales and marketing strategies.

For the Innovation Index (II), Frost & Sullivan places a premium on what they term the “three key promises of XDR,” which are: third-party integration capabilities, meaningful automation, and cross-layered threat detection and response.

Why VMware Carbon Black leads the XDR movement

Of the 17 vendors Frost & Sullivan plotted as leaders in the XDR industry, Carbon Black stands notably elevated in the top right quadrant of the radar, signifying exceptional growth and innovation.

Frost & Sullivan’s analysis highlights VMware Carbon Black’s potential for future growth and its position to shape industry best practices. According to the report, our “significant presence in the XDR market” stems from our robust portfolios and market share, particularly in Enterprise EDR and network security. The report names us as one of the key drivers of competitive intensity–which means we aren’t just looking at where the industry is today. We’re shaping where it’s heading.

Here are other reasons why we stand apart:

  • Openness and accessibility: Our commitment to providing an open XDR solution that is user-friendly resonates with Frost & Sullivan’s evaluation of core XDR functions.
  • Robust detection and response: Leading vendors like Carbon Black offer powerful detection and response capabilities, powered by heightened visibility through extensive third-party integrations. Carbon Black also offers features many competitors lack, such as enhanced network detection capabilities.
  • Innovative portfolio and upgrades: Our innovation is fueled by a wide-ranging portfolio of cybersecurity products that provide comprehensive visibility across endpoints, networks, clouds, and other environments. Our success in the EDR space has allowed our Enterprise EDR customers to experience a seamless way to evolve their EDR environment to Carbon Black XDR.
  • Enhanced integration: Beyond native integrations, we seamlessly integrate with third-party security controls, such as SIEM, SOAR, and threat intelligence sources.
  • Analyzing Kubernetes traffic: Our ability to analyze Kubernetes network traffic provides our customers with a more detailed view of their network.
  • Visualization and incident analysis: Looking ahead, we plan to include a visualization tool designed to empower security analysts to delve deeper into incident analysis, offering more effective threat response strategies.
  • Global reach: From the Americas to EMEA and Asia-Pacific, our presence ranges from mid-sized businesses to large enterprises. This is a factor in our superior growth index rating.

In a world where constant attacks are automated at machine scale, XDR is an exciting and necessary next step for cybersecurity programs in all types of organizations. We’re proud to be a leader in this vital effort.
