5. Deploying at Cloud Speed: 7 Networking and Security Principles

Session ID: NSCB2382LV

Innovations in application architectures have transformed the way apps are designed and delivered. App and Infra teams want to deploy apps at cloud speed in private cloud or hybrid multi-cloud environments. However, the traditional approach involves a myriad of steps to set up the physical network infrastructure and can take weeks or months to deploy an app. Join us to learn 7 design principles that address these shortcomings, to deliver a cloud operating model and cloud speed for deploying apps.

Discover how the NSX+ full-stack platform delivers game-changing innovations in network virtualization, distributed security, and scale-out load balancing to transform private and hybrid multi-cloud infrastructure, enabling self-service, multi-tenancy, defense-in-depth security, and app elasticity.

1. NSX Mindset: The Architect’s Forum Part 1

Session ID: NSCT2793LV

How do you know when your organization has been attacked? Worse yet, if you realize you have been attacked how do you respond? This session will introduce attendees to an organization that has experienced an attack and subsequently has decided to use the breach as a catalyst to redesign a new and more secure multi-cloud infrastructure. The two-part Security Mindset sessions offer attendees an opportunity to see how a cross-functional architecture team comes together to design a next-generation multi-cloud data center.

This first session will cover the details of the breach and the corresponding business objectives that have been defined to help the organization transition to a more modern data center. The session will continue into the conceptual design of an internal firewall solution with intrusion detection and intrusion prevention to control lateral movement. Additionally, the network security team will look at what design changes can be made to enhance the security posture of the environment against unknown threats while the application delivery team introduces design decisions that can create security enforcement in front of our critical applications.

  • Chris McCain, Technologist Director, VMware
  • Stijn Vanveerdeghem, Director, Technical Product Management, VMware
  • Paul Mancuso, Technologist Director, VMware
  • Puneet Chawla, Networking and Security Technologist, VMware

3. NSX Design: Use-Case-Based Architectures for Practical Deployments

Session ID: NSCT1458LV

Network and security virtualization is the key to accomplishing the cloud dream of agile, elastic, and on-demand infrastructure. The most prominent organizations in the world adopted NSX as a core building block to implement their cloud platform. We will cover design choices based on customers’ use cases and requirements.

Use cases will include private cloud scaling and performance, security as a service, multi-tenancy, VDI, and remote locations. This topic is vast, but we will provide a taste of the potentiality of NSX based on our experience working with small and large customers around the globe.  We will first focus on building the infrastructure platform based on non-functional requirements such as high availability, scalability, and performance, then on logical design and advanced use cases.
