Better Secure and Manage Endpoints in a Remote Work World

The global pandemic has quickly changed how and where we work. Remote work is now the ‘new normal.’ Amid the massive transition, a June survey by S&P Global found:

  • More than two-thirds of companies may be working from home forever
  • Offices that do remain will probably shrink: 47% of respondents said their organizations were likely to reduce their physical office footprint1

As organizations navigate the shift, they must now manage and secure their remote work environments. Typically, organizations were monitoring network traffic, but remote work calls for visibility into activity on disparate endpoints. Today, solely focusing on network traffic leaves security blind spots.

Cybercriminals continue to be opportunistic and can easily adapt to new environments and find ways to exploit the vulnerabilities. With remote workforces, the security perimeter is now digital, giving malicious actors access to target devices connected to home networks. From social engineering to phishing campaigns, denial of service attacks to exploiting vulnerabilities in home routers, attacks are on the rise. In the financial sector alone, a May VMware Carbon Black report found a 238% increase in cyberattacks on banks has been linked to COVID-192.

Attackers will always target the weakest link, creating new and unprecedented challenges for InfoSec and IT professionals. These teams must now work together to operationalize security. Typically, security admins scan for vulnerabilities and set policies, but frequently it is IT that patches, hardens, and implements those policy changes. To be effective, security and IT Admins must have one source of truth for endpoint activity.
