The Path to VCDX-Network Virtualization

Written by Chris McCain, VCDX #79, and Director of Certification for the VMware NSBU

chris_mccain_screenshot_320x204The VMware Certified Design Expert – Network Virtualization (VCDX-NV) certification was announced at VMworld 2014 in August of this year.  Along with the announcement of the certification came the identification of a set of newly minted VCDX-NV’s.  With so much buzz going on around this new program, and the changing of the guard with the VCDX program, it’s important that we keep you, the community, informe
d about the future of the program.

The VCDX program was built to support the establishment of expert level knowledge in the area of enterprise design. Maintaining the quality of the assessment methodology and the integrity of structure is critical to the value of the certification. While the VCDX program has grown from one track (data center virtualization) to now four tracks (DCV, Cloud, Desktop, NV) the formula for reaching this elite level has not changed. Regardless of which track you choose to take you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Achieve all pre-requisite certifications.
  2. Assess your readiness level.
  3. Submit an application and all required documents.
  4. Upon acceptance of the application submission perform a multi-part assessment that includes a design defense, ad-hoc design, and troubleshooting.

Stay tuned as we develop upcoming posts on expert level training and new developments in the rules for moving laterally among the expert tracks.
