Supporting Always On Availability Groups (SQL Server) with App Volumes

With the recent release of App Volumes 2.12, we officially support Microsoft SQL Server Always On Availability Groups.

SQL Always On Availability Groups is a great way to provide high availability and disaster recovery because live copies of your databases reside on secondary servers. By integrating SQL Always On with App Volumes, we ensure the most popular application layering product can be enjoyed by users in any situation.

SQL database to SQL Always On Availability Groups Migration Steps

To accelerate your migration process, follow the steps below to migrate App Volumes from a single SQL database to SQL Always On Availability Groups (SQL 2014 Service Pack 1),

1. Uninstall App Volumes 2.11

2. Launch the VMware App Volumes 2.12 Installation Wizard, and click Next.

3. Select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and click Next.

4. Select Install App Volumes Manager, and click Install.

5. Launch the App Volumes Manager Installation Wizard, and click Next

6. Select Connect to an existing SQL Server Database (pre-created), and click Next.

7. Select the single SQL Server with the pre-created AppVolume database, and click Next.

8. Select HTTPS for a secure connection, and click Next.

9. Select the installation directory, and click Next

10. Install App Volumes Manager, and click Next.

11. Click Finish

12. Log in to launch the App Volumes Manager Console.

13. Verify that all services are working.

14. Stop App Volumes Manager Services.

15. Back up the AppVolume database.

16. Add the AppVolume database to SQL Always On Availability Groups.

17. After verification, the database is replicated in the SQL Always On Availability Groups change ODBC settings.

18. Click Configure to edit the 64-bit ODBC settings.

19. Change SQL Server from single SQL Server to a SQL Always On Availability Group Licenser, and click Next.

20. Start App Volumes Manager services.

21. Verify that App Volumes Manager is running by launching the console.
