Global Knowledge and VMware are conducting one of the industry’s most extensive and comprehensive studies of IT and business professionals. Last year, more than 16,300 from around the globe completed the survey. By providing insight into your profession, we can make this year’s survey even bigger.
Just what kind of trends in skills and salaries can be gleaned from these studies? Well, the Global Knowledge IT Salary and Skills survey has been tracking the trends in skills development for IT professionals since 2008. One of the key trends observed is the rise in importance of virtualization as a means of extended IT resources. In support of that trend has been the development of certifications which document an IT professional’s skills and capabilities to drive effective use of virtualization technology.
VMware certifications have a demonstrated impact on the holder’s skills as well as their earning potential. For example, in the 2014 IT Salary and Skills study the average salary for all IT professionals was $87,873. Respondents who hold a VMware certification saw a positive salary differential of $6,915 – that’s 7.9% higher. The salary differential is even higher when you compare IT professionals involved in virtualization without a certification to those who are VMware certified.
