VMware was once again named a Leader in the 2018 revision of the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI), improving on both the Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute axes. VMware believes this is a validation not only of our strategy, but also our ability to execute on our vision and deliver real value to our customers. VMware believes that this report showcases the strength of our unique vision for HCI: by leading with a hardware agnostic approach, VMware is uniquely positioned to deliver full-stack hyperconverged infrastructure to support organizations’ digital transformation and cloud strategy.
Hyperconverged Infrastructure: The New Operational Model
Not long ago, hyperconverged infrastructure meant software-defined compute and storage delivered in an appliance form factor. While the appliance model provided operational simplicity and simple building blocks, it limited customer choice and didn’t integrate with the rest of the data center, adding complexity in an already complicated environment. In the last Magic Quadrant, Gartner acknowledged the growing importance of software to HCI by including software-only vendors for the first time and recognized the growing number of deployment options. In this release, Gartner acknowledged the value of “full-stack HCI,” or the “complete set of software-defined services for compute, storage, networking, security and cloud management.” Hyperconverged infrastructure now incorporates all major data center functions, delivering a single, ubiquitous control plane, agnostic of hardware.
Three Reasons Why VMware Hyperconverged Infrastructure is the Trusted, Enterprise-Grade Solution
We believe there are three main reasons why IT leaders are increasingly turning to VMware HCI, now with over 17,000 customers, for their mission-critical applications:
Continuously Expanding Application Ecosystem. We believe we have gained customer’s trust to run business critical applications on vSAN by working hand-in-hand with innovative companies to jointly certify applications, from mission-critical to cloud-native. Recently, VMware has announced support of SAP HANA, InterSystems Cachè and IRIS Data Platform, DataStax and Cloudera.
Industry Leading Deployment Options. VMware uniquely jointly certifies servers with 15 OEM server vendors with over 500 validated configurations, providing customers choice to select the server vendor that best meets their organization’s needs. In addition, VMware has jointly engineered a turn-key appliance with Dell, Dell EMC VxRail, which simplifies HCI deployments with simple building blocks and a comprehensive lifecycle management tool. Finally, VMware has over 500 public cloud provider partners that offer HCI-as-a-Service, including native integration with the largest cloud provider, Amazon. This consistently expanding ecosystem enables customers to select a cloud provider that meets their specific needs, including service level, geographic location and price.
An Unwavering Commitment to Innovation. Looking to the future, VMware announced a vSAN Private Beta at VMworld 2018 US for three distinct features: data protection, file services and persistent storage for cloud-native applications. VMware is exploring how software-defined infrastructure and operational simplicity can further reduce time spent on routine tasks and specialized skill sets to accelerate digital transformation.
