The timeless saying “Can’t See the Forest for the Trees” has never been more relevant than it is for IT teams struggling to understand the big picture of cloud management. Today’s cloud infrastructure and operations teams require a holistic view of physical and virtualized network, compute, and storage domains, but are often “lost in the trees,” using outdated legacy management tools designed for a single technology domain. These point tools only see the disparate domains of network, storage and compute, and lack awareness of the topology and critical interconnections and dependencies that make up the larger forest.
Welcome Arkin
VMware’s vision is to provide customers with a true cloud management platform—one that spans network, compute and storage—and serves as the control plane for automating and securing hybrid cloud environments. At the same time, we realize data center infrastructure is rapidly converging, breaking down the traditional barriers between technology domains. And at the center of this convergence is VMware NSX, serving as the control point for the software-defined data center (SDDC). As NSX continues to grow and scale, management becomes an enabler for customers’ SDDC implementations.
That is why it is my pleasure to announce our intent to acquire Arkin and welcome the company’s employees and their customers to the VMware family. During the past few years, Arkin has developed a truly innovative approach to managing cloud environments — purpose-built for NSX, with simple and powerful new visualization tools. After the close of the acquisition, Arkin is expected to join VMware’s Cloud Management Business Unit, a passionate team of people responsible for VMware’s vRealize Management Suite. Arkin team members will also work to increase our collaboration with VMware’s Network & Security Business Unit, providing customers a truly integrated approach to next-generation cloud management.
Why Customers Will Benefit
Arkin customers have already achieved significant reductions in troubleshooting times from hours to minutes. With the acquisition of Arkin, and through the integration of vRealize Suite, cloud management teams will have access to a new generation of planning, troubleshooting and automation tools that provide visibility and control across the entire data center environment.
In addition, Arkin addresses key benefits throughout the management lifecycle, including:
- Pre-deployment: A pre-assessment tool that will provide an understanding of the traffic patterns in the datacenter.
- Deployment: With concepts like micro-segmentation planning baked into the product, customers will now be able to plan and deploy NSX security faster.
- Post Deployment: By delivering visibility across virtual and physical for both network and security, concepts like time machine, natural language search based troubleshooting and contextual analytics customers are seeing significantly lower time to resolution.
