There is no denying the benefits cloud technology has brought to our lives. It’s now commonplace for businesses and individuals to use cloud computing. However, organizations and IT Professionals alike are struggling to keep up with ever-changing cloud technologies, not only from a technical standpoint but the sheer amount of data that exists and needs to be taken care of. According to CyberSecurity ventures, by 2025, there will be over 100 zettabytes of data stored in the cloud.
Cloud and Application Modernization
To manage, deploy, and build cloud applications more efficiently, digital transformation has also required modernization of legacy applications. There are many reasons companies decide to modernize their applications, including to improve reliability or performance, to enhance security, or to scale to meet market demands. According to the 2021 VMware Market Insights Report, more than 50% of all apps are expected to be modern by 2024. In the survey, 91% executives intend to migrate and modernize their legacy apps. In addition, modern applications are expected to grow 20% on average across cloud and data centers, compared to traditional apps.
When to consider migrating to the cloud
Migrating requires a thorough understanding of the reasons and careful planning of the existing IT infrastructure and supporting initiatives. Whether you migrate from on-premises to the cloud or consider a cloud-first or cloud-only strategy, your foundational IT strategy will determine whether you shift all or part of your IT organization.
In your cloud journey, you should consider security, scalability, data recovery, and security needs. For example, a healthcare organization may have a different cloud need than that of a large retail company.

Four types of Cloud Computing
Private cloud
A private cloud allows organizations to maintain their own infrastructure and restrict external access to data. A private cloud is built using software-defined networking and virtualization machines to pool all the resources in a data center. This option is often used by organizations that have heavily invested in on-premises infrastructure. There can be multiple server locations around the world or collocation space. By following stringent security protocols, private clouds help organizations comply with rigorous regulatory government demands.
Advantages of private cloud:
- Higher level of security: For enterprises with sensitive data, access control becomes a top priority since all data and applications reside behind firewalls.
- Customizable: Private cloud allows you to customize on-premises architecture to meet your organization’s specific requirement.
Public Cloud
An external cloud provider manages a company’s infrastructure in a public cloud. Multiple tenants share the computing resources over the internet. These tenants, however, remain isolated from each other in order to share computing resources. With a public cloud you are charged on a subscription or pay as you go model.
Advantages of public cloud:
- Security: A public cloud provider’s IT security team monitors all data and applications for possible breaches, ensuring 24/7 protection.
- Scalability: Third-party infrastructure allows organizations to scale easily without spending more money on hardware.
Hybrid Cloud
Hybrid clouds combine elements of public and private cloud computing. Using a hybrid cloud architecture, public and private cloud infrastructures interact while taking advantage of existing architecture in a data center. This cloud architecture allows organizations to consolidate IT resources and offers workload flexibility. With this approach, companies can maintain sensitive data separately while leveraging the power and scalability of public clouds to store more data.
Advantages of Hybrid Cloud:
- Flexibility – A Hybrid cloud model offers enterprises the flexibility to change direction quickly when it comes to data management.
- Cost- By using a public cloud provider, an organization can reduce costs by avoiding the need to purchase additional infrastructure.
Multi-Cloud
Multi-Cloud allows organizations to leverage two or more external cloud providers in managing a company’s infrastructure in public clouds. It is also possible to combine on-premises private clouds with two or more cloud providers in a multi-cloud architecture. Organizations with global footprints would greatly benefit from this model if data compliance is mandated by geography or country.
Advantages of Multi- Cloud:
- Flexibility – Organizations are not bound to one cloud service provider and can avoid vendor lock-in issues that may arise.
- Cost- Leveraging multiple pay-as-you-go cloud providers can result in cost savings.
What is the value of a cloud certified staff?
Due to the growing popularity of cloud services, there is a tremendous demand for certified cloud IT professionals. Companies need trained staff to adapt quickly to changing business requirements and develop products and features that deliver value. For example, if you’re planning to deploy a multi-cloud infrastructure using vRealize Suite components, being certified ensures you can assess entire environments, making them easier to manage. Our Cloud certifications keep our students on top of the latest technologies, helping you succeed no matter where you are on your cloud career journey.
The value to the successful candidate can be immense. Getting certified gives you the skills to approach new cloud projects with confidence. We offer cloud training programs tailored for IT professionals, IT leaders, and companies for tomorrow’s needs today.
