Announcements Mobile Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense

VMware Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense wins gold, VMware wins 11 awards at the 2023 Cybersecurity Excellence Awards

The 2023 Cybersecurity Excellence Awards winners have been announced, and our phishing and mobile threat protection solution, VMware Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense, received the highest recognition: the Gold Award.

With more than 900 entries in more than 250 award categories, the 2023 Cybersecurity Excellence Awards program recognizes companies, products, and professionals that demonstrate excellence, innovation, and leadership in information security. Winners, determined on the strength of their nomination and committee vote, reflect the very best in innovation and excellence in tackling today’s urgent mobile security challenges.

VMware earned 11 awards this year across categories including Threat Intelligence, Workload Protection, Ransomware Protection, Ransomware Recovery, Endpoint Security, Secure Access, Next Generation Firewall, and Network Detection and Response.

Gold Award winner Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense detects myriad threats encountered by Android, iOS, and Chrome OS devices, including phishing and smishing attacks; malicious, leaky, or poorly configured apps; jailbreaks and device vulnerabilities; and behavior associated with rogue networks. Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense is integrated with the Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) platform, so it is easy to deploy and activate advanced mobile protection to corporate and BYOD users. Security is delivered via Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub, where users receive notifications and take actions from a tool that they already use for work.

The Mobile Threat Defense solution also aims to reduce friction and make things easier on teams via automation. Workspace ONE UEM integration means that threat information can inform both manual and automated responses when Mobile Threat Defense detects issues. For example, if a malicious application is detected on a device, a message can be sent to the end user to remove the application within a specific timeframe. According to the level of risk tolerance set by the security team, additional steps can be taken either immediately or later: a profile can be removed, and a message can be sent to the user prompting them to connect via a secure alternative means (VDI, for example) until the issue is resolved. When issues are resolved — with or without IT intervention — access can be restored. A connection with Workspace ONE Intelligence also allows for aggregate reporting and the flow of information and actions into ITSM tools, as well as Slack.

Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense Phishing and Content Protection integrated with Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub and Workspace ONE Tunnel is currently in beta on iOS and Android devices. By integrating URL-based phishing and content protection with Hub and Tunnel, Mobile Threat Defense can simultaneously secure application connections while filtering content. Furthermore, URL filtering–based protection extends beyond email to SMS, messaging, and social apps. More information about the beta program is available here.

The VMware team appreciates the recognition of Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense. We have aimed to make security easier to deploy and more effective, bridging any gaps in workflows and communication across IT and security teams. We are thankful for the work of the engineering teams at VMware and our technology partner Lookout who made this vision for better mobile security a reality.
