Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management Announcements

Workspace ONE Launcher updates for seamless shared device management – Android Series Episode 18

Every day, supply chain organizations across the globe rely on Workspace ONE Launcher to configure, customize and secure shared devices used by shift-based frontline workers. As businesses continue to accelerate mobilization efforts, particularly for task and service workers, VMware has maintained a rapid pace of innovation to help organizations maximize frontline worker productivity and employee experience (EX) with Workspace ONE Launcher.

Today, we’re excited to share the latest Workspace ONE Launcher features, which are currently generally available or coming soon. In this episode, Kenny Takahashi from our Product Marketing Team joins me to demo these features and enhancements, including UI updates, improved check-in/check-out, speed limit lock feature and deeper integration with Workspace ONE Intelligence.

Updated UI for streamlined configuration

Workspace ONE Launcher makes it easy to deliver a seamless, consumer-like end-user experience across shared devices by only giving workers access to the apps, content and settings they need to stay productive and engaged. In our next Workspace ONE UEM console release, IT admins will get their first taste of our updated, more intuitive Workspace ONE Launcher UI, which was designed to simplify and streamline configuration of shared devices. It was also built on our new data-driven profile architecture that enables rapid feature delivery, so IT can take advantage of the latest management APIs without having to build a custom profile.

Improved performance and offline mode for check-in/check-out

With Workspace ONE Launcher, IT can create and assign Launcher profiles based on worker role or an individual. Whether the employee is a store manager or sales associate, factory supervisor or warehouse picker, or doctor or nurse, once a device is checked-out, it’s automatically and dynamically configured with the apps and settings associated with their login credentials. When they’re done with their shift and check the device back in, its settings are wiped, and the device is ready to be checked-out again. In the next console release, we’ve made significant performance improvements to the check-in/check-out process, enabling customers to quickly scale their shared device deployments to support changing market demands.

The new release will also include an offline feature for devices configured in check-in/check-out mode. Devices used by frontline workers are often deployed in the field or on jobsites with limited connectivity or low bandwidth. With offline mode, IT can create and assign an offline profile to workers based on their organizational group that contains the line-of-business (LOB) apps mission-critical to business operations. Once onsite or in the field, if no server connection is found and a worker isn’t able to check-out a device, they can select offline mode to stay productive and engaged.

Speed limit lock feature for improved worker safety

The mobile devices frontline workers — like delivery truck drivers — rely on to track and deliver essential goods and services can also play a role in distracted driving. Distracted driving incidents can negatively impact a company’s reputation and bottom line, and it’s important that employers put policies in place that help workers avoid risky driving behaviors (like texting, calling or browsing apps while driving). Last year, in Workspace ONE Launcher 4.7, we added a new speed lock feature to help customers prevent unsafe device use among their drivers. This feature enables organizations to set a speed limit at which to lock a device, lock and unlock sensitivity and implement custom message alerts. If a device exceeds the IT-defined speed limit, it remains locked until the driver comes to a complete stop.

Deeper integration with Workspace ONE Intelligence

Workspace ONE Intelligence is an advanced device and app analytics tool that enables organizations to make data-driven decisions. It’s especially important for organizations with frontline workers using mission-critical devices, who can leverage Workspace ONE Intelligence to predict and automate events, like battery failure and replacement. This year, customers will also be able to track and analyze performance of critical Workspace ONE Launcher user flows in Workspace ONE Intelligence to quickly identify and resolve issues, reduce escalations and improve EX. Initially, this will include app usage tracking and crash reporting for check-in/check-out and data clearing, with additional performance metrics to be added in subsequent releases. These new Workspace ONE Intelligence capabilities will be available to customers soon. Stay tuned for more info in the coming months!
