Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense Announcements Workspace Security

VMware Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense wins 2023 SC Award for Best Mobile Security Solution

VMware Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense has won the top spot, securing the award for Best Mobile Security Solution in the 2023 SC Awards, which recognize the excellence in U.S. cybersecurity. This is the second award for our VMware mobile security solution. Earlier this year Mobile Threat Defense received a Gold Award — the highest honor — from the Cybersecurity Excellence Awards.

Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense provides advanced security and detects threats encountered by Android, iOS, and ChromeOS devices. These cyber threats include phishing and smishing attacks; malicious, leaky, or poorly configured apps; jailbreaks and device vulnerabilities; and behavior associated with rogue networks, such as machine-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks.

Phishing is a specific concern for mobile users across both BYOD (bring your own device) and COPE (corporate-owned personally enabled) devices. Email protection is not enough when malicious links are delivered outside of email via SMS and other mobile applications. Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense protects users at the DNS level, before web requests are loaded, so any web request can be filtered and permitted or blocked. Phishing and content protection is also integrated with Workspace ONE Tunnel so that URL-based phishing and content protection and secure tunneling to apps and resources can be implemented simultaneously.

Phishing is on the rise:

  • 2022 had the highest percentage of mobile phishing encounter rates ever, with an average of more than 30% of personal and enterprise users exposed to these attacks every quarter, as reported in The 2022 Global State of Mobile Phishing Report, from Lookout.
  • 74% of all breaches include the human element. The three primary ways that attackers access an organization are stolen credentials, phishing, and exploitation of vulnerabilities, as reported in the 2023 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report (BDIR).

The rich protection across threats and vulnerabilities afforded by Mobile Threat Defense is embedded in the Workspace ONE platform in a way that makes security more effective. Via integration with the Workspace ONE platform, Mobile Threat Defense is easier to implement across a population of corporate and BYOD users. Security is delivered via Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub, where users receive notifications and take actions from a tool that they already use for work. Mobile Threat Defense is also integrated with Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM), which allows IT teams to streamline the management of devices and drive automatic remediation via Workspace ONE UEM when threats are detected.
