UEM, IoT, AR, BYOD, EMM—read about all of the innovations and buzzy acronyms coming out of VMware’s huge end-user computing event.
Connect Atlanta 2016, one of the biggest annual events in enterprise mobility from VMware AirWatch, is underway. Today was packed with announcements, breaking news and tech previews of the newest innovations to AirWatch and VMware Workspace ONE. Here are the big five you need to know.
1. VMware Integrates Next-Gen Windows Management into AirWatch UEM
AirWatch 9.0, known as AirWatch Unified Endpoint Management (UEM), is now available. What this means for AirWatch and Workspace ONE customers: advanced Windows management capabilities and streamlined deployments for Android for Work, iOS and macOS.
2. AirWatch Adds IoT & AR Management Capabilities
AirWatch UEM also includes new management capabilities for Internet of Things (IoT) endpoints and augmented reality (AR) devices, such as smart glasses. These exciting innovations are the fruits of collaborations and partnerships with companies like Dell and Intel to help companies deliver and scale IoT and AR in the enterprise.
3. New Security Enhancements to Workspace ONE
New Workspace ONE innovations give IT better control over bring-your-own-device (BYOD) users and contractors without encroaching end-user privacy or lessening user experiences:
- IT can now securely deploy apps to devices without a profile using mobile application management (MAM) only.
- Adaptive management offers a “Workspace Services” option so users can use native, OS-level MAM to access third-party enterprise apps.
- Workspace ONE includes new real-time security features: a continuous authentication policy, password form fill, internal mobile app distribution and self-serve password reset.
In addition, VMware Boxer, the popular mobile email app in Workspace ONE’s productivity apps suite, is now available for Android users!
4. VMware Automates EMM Migrations
VMware plans to eliminate two common issues IT encounters during EMM migrations: 1) exporting and importing data and 2) un-enrolling and enrolling users. VMware AirWatch Professional Services will take care of exporting and importing users and devices, and VMware will push a Migration App to initiate un-enrollment from the legacy EMM platform and enrollment into VMware AirWatch.
5. VMware Offers Safe Passage to Blackberry Good
Enterprise organizations can take advantage of VMware’s newly expanded Safe Passage Program to Good. BlackBerry announced the end of life for its enterprise mobility management (EMM) solution, and many customers are evaluating their options: re-invest or rip and replace. VMware AirWatch not only offers an industry leading EMM solution but also a unified endpoint management architecture.
