Accelerating a New Era of Business Mobility: Executive Summary

Mobility has the potential to be the most transformative trend in business, affecting every employee and customer while helping make the organizations that successfully implement mobile initiatives more competitive and more successful. Business and IT leaders consistently rank mobility as one of their highest priorities. Gartner’s 2015 CIO Survey revealed, “the mobile delivery and experience of IT systems, both for internal and external customers, is now a top concern in system design, requiring I&O organizations to shift priorities and skill sets.”1 Forrester advises CIOs and CMOs to undertake key strategic imperatives, including embracing the mobile mind shift to serve customers.2

However, there is a significant gap between organizations’ mobility goals and their ability to achieve those goals, according to the VMware State of Business Mobility Report 2015.

VMware business mobility report 2015Because most organizations have only implemented basic individual productivity applications such as calendars and email and fewer have evolved to add team productivity solutions for collaboration, their efforts fall considerably short of reengineering core processes—a business mobility requirement.

To understand the state of mobility, VMware engaged with Management Insight in July 2015 to survey 1,182 IT decision makers, IT influencers and business decision makers worldwide. The survey comprised a market sample and VMware customers3 and used a 30-minute, web-based questionnaire. The participants represented a broad range of industries, titles, and company sizes. The results are revealing.4
