Applications Driving Digital Transformation

Listen to Episode Four of the new Digital Journeys podcast ‘Future Ready’ series. Thought provoking and entertaining, but above all, actionable insights brought to you by VMware and 3rd party industry voices.

In the first three episodes of the ‘Digital Journeys – Future Ready’ series, we focussed on how organisations have responded to the global COVID-19 crisis, from initial business continuity and on through business resiliency, culminating in a look at the Accelerate phase, where organisations are using the knowledge and processes established in the first two phases to accelerate their digital transformation, and pursuit of organisational goals.

What became obvious during those conversations is the increased importance and proliferation of applications in today’s IT. In this episode, we’ll explore the application landscape, how it’s evolving and how the relationship between developers and IT is also changing.

While they’re critical, it’s not only about apps at the front end that are driving new services to customers, increasing choice and freedom for citizens, educating students remotely, providing healthcare during a lockdown and so on. It’s also the apps that link back end systems together, and the apps that drive the APIs that unlock the value in corporate data.

And of course, the decision making associated with apps – the ‘5 Rs’ of app futures: retaining, re-platforming, re-homing, replacing or rewriting the hundreds, even thousands of apps used by each organisation.

In this episode, Garry and Rory are joined by Ed Hoppitt, Director, Solution Engineering – Application Platforms, VMware EMEA, to tell the story of the application.
