VMware {code} is Proud to Announce: The Dream Team of Hackathon Judges

As VMware Explore 2023 gets closer and gains momentum, so does this year’s VMware {code} Hackathon! If you have not signed up to participate, there is no time like the present. Register for the Hackathon here.

The Hackathon will take place at VMware Explore 2023 conference held in The Venetian Resort Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. If you plan to attend in person, the Hackathon agenda is as follows:

VMware {code} Hackathon Live Event

Date/Time: Monday, August 21st
– Live Hacking – 12:00pm – 5:00pm PST
– Demos, Presentations, Judging and Winners Announcement – 7:00pm – 12:00am PST

And while the Hackathon live coding competition continues to generate lots of interest, we continue to share exciting news as soon as it becomes available.

The latest update is the announcement of our superstar lineup of celebrity judges, headlined by VMware’s Chief Research and Innovation Officer, Chris Wolf

Chris leads the Research and Innovation organization in the VMware Office of the CTO. He has led technology teams for the past 25 years and is the perfect leader to help determine this year’s Hackathon winners!

Frank DennemanChief Technologist, VMware

Frank is a chief technologist for VMware’s Cloud Platform business unit and host of The Unexplored Territory Podcast. No stranger to innovation, Frank is a natural judge for this year’s competition!

Alan works within the office of the CTO and has been with VMware for over a dozen years now. His claim to fame was taking what started as a Borathon project, and ended up on the VMworld conference main stage next to former VMware CEO, Pat Gelsinger showing off the VR headset.

Patrick Kremer has been running VMware environments since ESX 3.0. He is currently a VMware Specialist Solution Architect at AWS but held many titles over his 7+ years at VMware.

Kerry has been the Senior Director of IT at OneMagnify for the past 2 decades. In her spare time, she loves public speaking and giving presentations for some familiar groups (Tanzu Vanguard, VMUG, vLadies, SpringOne).

Scott RosenbergLead Architect, CTO Office, TeraSky

Scott has led the Cloud practice at TeraSky since 2018 and is currently leading innovative solutions and implementing them on a global scale for all the company’s customers. Scott is active in the Kubernetes project as well as many ecosystem tools surrounding Kubernetes such as Pinniped, Cluster API, Carvel and Kubeapps.

Michael is a Developer turned Infrastructure Architect turned Solutions Engineer and, in a nutshell, “Infrastructure is awesome, but automating it is way better”. He is also a huge proponent of enabling and empowering everyone to become the SREs of the future!

Kylie EbringerSenior Engineering Manager, VMware

Kylie is the Engineering Manager of Developer Relations for VMware Carbon Black. Prior to joining Carbon Black, Kylie worked in the Australian Government in several interesting roles including information architect focusing on cyber security.


The organizers for this year’s Hackathon can hardly believe their good fortune for accumulating such a talented group of tech leaders and advocates. They believe it will translate to more engaging and innovative technology proposals and concepts than all the previous Hackathons combined!

And for us to blow the doors off this year’s competition, we need beyond brilliant, out-of-the-normal technical submissions that are sure to rock the judges and audiences at VMware Explore! So, what are you waiting for? Now’s the time to register for the VMware {code} Hackathon!
