VMware Cloud Provider

The Evolution of our Integrated Stack strategy for Cloud Providers

VMware is happy to announce the updated roadmap to the Integrated Stack for Cloud Providers.

In 2018, VMware launched the VMware Cloud Provider Pod as a way for partners to get up and running quickly on a Software-Defined Datacenter and VMware vCloud Director-based cloud offering. Cloud Provider Pod helped partners with Day 0 deployment of the entire stack from vSphere, NSX, and vSAN to the cloud stack with vCloud Director. Although Cloud Provider Pod made deploying clouds easier, cloud providers also wanted help making Day 2+ lifecycle management easier.

The next generation of our integrated stack strategy for cloud providers focuses on utilizing VMware Cloud Foundation and its innovative solutions. The evolution to VCF is a big step towards giving partners the tools they need to not only build their cloud offering, but to maintain, grow, and manage it.

What is the next for Cloud Providers?

VMware is working on a VMware Validated Design for Cloud Providers that utilizes VMware Cloud Foundation. The first edition of this design will utilize VCF to deploy the underlying infrastructure, and provide guidance on best practices for deploying VMware Cloud Director (the new name for what was previously called VMware vCloud Director) on top of VCF. The design will incorporate two types of cloud offerings. One for Multi-Tenant Public Cloud, and another for Dedicated Private Cloud.

What is happening to Cloud Provider Pod?

The Cloud Provider Pod product will continue to be available for partners until September 30, 2020 and will still be generally supported until December 31, 2020. In the meantime, VMware will continue to provide software version updates to the Cloud Provider Pod, like we did in February, when it was updated to VMware Cloud Director 10.

VMware Cloud Foundation

As of this week, we’ve removed the restrictions to adopting VCF, and partners can begin to deploy their infrastructure using the VMware SDDC Manager. We believe the introduction of SDDC Manager is a big step towards providing more options for deploying VCF by cloud providers, and we are looking forward to helping providers build the next generation of dedicated private cloud and public cloud offerings on VMware’s flagship SDDC offering! For more information on the new pricing model, take a look at the announcement blog here!

VMware Validated Design for Cloud Providers

As we bring VCF to Cloud Providers, we are hard at work on a VMware Validated Design to guide partners on how to deploy VCF and VMware Cloud Director together. The next edition of VVD for Cloud Providers will show how to deploy the infrastructure automatically and deploy the multi-tenant cloud on top. We are excited about the new options available to Cloud Providers, and we look forward to helping you with this journey!
