VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager 1.2 has unlocked the CLI capability and supportability of various products. If you are unfamiliar with version 1.2, please refer this demo video and VMware documentation.
Recently, VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager 1.2.0.1 has been released to address a critical vulnerability introduced by a library used by VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager. You can refer VMware’s security advisory and can check out the release notes here.
As Heraclitus rightly said, “change is the only constant in life” and VMware believes in delivering new and updated solutions, hence you will see constant product updates and enhancements.
Hence keeping the product updates and releases in mind, VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle manager 1.2 has introduced interop bundles which makes the existing VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager, compatible with the updated products it supports.
How does it work?
Currently VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager supports deployment and management of products like VMware Cloud Director, Usage Meter, vRealize Operations Manager Tenant App.
If any of the above product is updated and a new version is released, then a corresponding VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager interop bundle will be available which will contain the definitions for new product interoperability. Additionally, minor fixes for the integration of VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager with the products will be included in this bundle. Finally, an install script to install the interop bundle on the VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager host is part of the bundle.
Where can I find the VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager Interop Bundle ?
The interop bundle is available in VMware Download Page under respective VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager version in Drivers & Tools. For VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager 1.2, you can find the interop bundle here.
How can I install the Bundle?
- Download the interop bundle and copy it to the VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager appliance.
- Log in to the appliance with vcplcm user
- Extract the content from the interop bundle: eg- unzip vcplcm-interop-bundle-1.1.lcm
- Run the bundle install script: /bin/bash interop_bundle_install.sh
- If using VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager 1.2.0, the install script will fix a vulnerability and thus a restart of VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager service is needed. It prompts for the root password in that case. Enter the corresponding password to continue – if this is skipped, users should restart the service afterwards in order for the security change to take effect. See details about the vulnerability and the fix that is automated in this script here: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/87142 . Note that this does not apply to VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager 1.2.0.1 or later, as the vulnerability is not present in that case.
