Don’t miss the latest installment of VMware’s Multi-Cloud podcast series, with guests Bill Shetti and Dan Ilson. This episode looks at Continuous Verification (CV), an emerging approach to extend CI/CD processes that’s helping to expand the boundaries of DevOps. Find out how it helps you deploy applications that are more reliable, more secure and more cost-effective.
On the latest installment of VMware’s Multi-Cloud podcast series, Eric Nielsen (@ericnipro) and I (@davidj7494) took a look at an emerging approach to extend CI/CD processes through a concept called Continuous Verification (CV). Our guests on the podcast were Bill Shetti and Dan Ilson. Both are VMware Cloud Evangelists, focused on helping our customers better operate their public cloud environments. Here are the links to the newest podcast.
We all discussed how CV is helping to expand the boundaries of DevOps. One way it’s doing this is by pulling more and more post-deployment checks into CI/CD pipelines. That means when applications are deployed, they’re more reliable, more secure and more cost-effective.
Common CV Scenarios
Using continuous verification, Bill, Dan and the rest of their team have created governance checks as part of their CI/CD pipelines. These checks perform various functions, including:
- Verifying the expected resource utilization and associated costs of those resources won’t exceed authorized limits
- Validating that the configurations of the IaaS and PaaS resources they’re using meet specific security and compliance best practices
- Ensuring that once deployed, an application can achieve specific performance thresholds
Multiple Scenarios and Technologies
The team is leveraging a combination of VMware technologies, cloud hyper-scaler technologies and a host of 3rd party tools as part of their continuous verification efforts. The approach can extend to a wide range of scenarios and technologies. The goal is always the same: speed up code delivery while at the same time delivering higher-quality code that meets stringent performance objectives and is more secure and more reliable.
