Much like VMware vMotion ushered a new generation of agility and mobility within a data center, HCX is ushering in a new era of multi-cloud connectivity and mobility!
One of the highlights of the VMworld keynote showcased the partnership that VMware has with public cloud providers and the multi-cloud hybrid highway that brings all these clouds together. A demo was shown that included a running application in VMware Cloud on AWS and a running application in VMware Solution on Azure by CloudSimple and these applications being bulk live migrated using VMware HCX across platforms – with the application originally running on VMC on AWS being moved to Azure and vice versa with zero downtime, with the user unaware that the move is even happening. (Go back and read that last sentence again). To simplify, that’s a live cloud to cloud migration wave with zero downtime!
This demo showcased future opportunities around hybrid Azure/AWS applications where you can build best-of-breed solutions comprised of multiple cloud services and run them in any datacenter, or in any cloud. It featured VMware HCX and the newly released large scale bulk live migration capabilities (Replication assisted vMotion) included in HCX Enterprise. It also demonstrated upcoming support of multi-cloud connectivity and application mobility. With these combined features, customers will be able to easily connect a VMware on Azure site with a VMware Cloud on AWS site by stretching networks and moving VMs across at will using HCX.
Much like VMware vMotion ushered a new generation of agility and mobility within a data center, HCX is ushering in a new era of multi-cloud connectivity and mobility! This solution frees up application owners to use their choice of cloud. It gives Enterprises the freedom to choose a cloud solution based on what is best for the application, but still be able to connect to private and public VMW based clouds for interdependencies and connectivity needs. Solutions like VMware Cloud on AWS, VMware Solution on Azure by CloudSimple, VMware Cloud Foundation and others combined with VMware HCX made hybrid architectures a reality and are now driving the shift to multi-cloud architectures by providing the hybrid highway to simplify network connectivity and workload mobility to enable application migration and ongoing rebalancing across a changing enterprise cloud footprint.
