As referenced in our VMware Explore blog, there is a lot happening at VMware Explore Las Vegas this week! The keynotes, breakout sessions, hands on labs and product announcements will be fast and furious, so if you can’t be there in person, stay tuned to the VMware Explore Livestream here. VMware is enabling customers to take a cloud-smart approach when adopting multi-cloud as the foundation for successful GenAI adoption at scale across the enterprise.
This post provides an overview of some of the key announcements for VMware Cloud Foundation at VMware Explore! Building upon the momentum from the VMware Cloud Foundation 5.0 GA in June, VMware is making a number of large announcements across the latest set of products and platforms, delivering innovations across the portfolio of vSphere, vSAN, NSX, Aria and Tanzu. These innovations are also being integrated into VMware Cloud Foundation later this year, plus upcoming support for some of the more highly anticipated product capabilities across vSphere and vSAN, detailed below.
Figure 1: VMware Cloud Foundation innovations coming in 2HFY23
VMware Cloud Foundation integration with vSphere Distributed Services Engine:
New to VMware Cloud Foundation later this year will be support for the vSphere Distributed Services Engine (DSE), modernizing data center by offloading full stack infrastructure functions from CPU to Data Processing Units (DPUs) from leading providers including AMD and NVIDIA. IN independent tests, this offload capability delivers up to 20M Transactions Per Second across 80 Redis database instances[1]. You can also expect to see a number of vSphere based enhancements including the ability to double the CPU capacity per VM in a VMware Cloud Foundation environment
VMware Cloud Foundation integration with vSAN Express Storage Architecture
VMware Cloud Foundation will also support full integration with the vSAN Express Storage Architecture (ESA), which depending on the workload type, VCF customers will be able to experience 50- 80% improvements over the original storage architecture (OSA) for Healthcare or Apache Kafka database applications[2].
Next Generation Multi-Cloud Networking delivered by NSX+
Networking and security plays a key role in delivering advanced functionality into a multi-cloud environment and VMware Cloud Foundation will integrate the latest NSX+ release that provides global connectivity across on-premises and cloud-based resources, establishing a network fabric for multi-cloud deployments, using distributed management domains to establish a secure, resilient and flexible software-defined network overlay.
Integration with Aria Cloud Management Suite
Finally, new integration between VCF and the Aria Universal Suite provides access to more multi-Cloud management features for better operational visibility and high degrees of automation for private and public cloud services.
