VMware vSphere Foundation Now Delivers an Enterprise-Class HCI Solution

We are excited to announce the general availability of VMware vSAN capacity for VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF). This enhancement provides VVF with an enterprise-class hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) solution for running virtual machines (VMs) and containers. Now, all new VVF licenses sold include 0.25 TiB per core. This is a change from the prior VVF offering of 100 GiB trial capacity. For organizations needing additional capacity, vSAN licenses can easily expand through add-ons.

In addition, the vSAN capacity included in VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF) can be aggregated across all cores within a customer’s environment. For example, if a customer licenses two vSphere clusters with VVF and only uses vSAN with one cluster, the customer can use the entitlement from the compute-only cluster for the HCI cluster.

Finally, vSAN capacity with VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF) is now additive and not trial capacity, meaning the customer only needs to purchase add-on capacity if the included vSAN capacity is exceeded. For example, a host with 16 cores and 8 TiBs of capacity would need to only purchase 4 TiBs of vSAN add-on, as the customer already has 4 TiBs of vSAN capacity.

Why VMware vSAN Matters for Modern IT

VMware vSAN is a market-leading storage virtualization solution aggregating local and direct-attached storage from servers in a vSphere cluster into a unified, shared storage pool. Integrated into VMware vSphere, vSAN eliminates the need for additional software installations, allowing organizations to manage compute and storage with a single, familiar platform, simplifying operations and reducing costs.

VMware vSAN offers flexible deployment options, including standard Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) setups where compute and storage scale together and disaggregated configurations where storage scales independently of compute. Integrated directly into the VMware ESX hypervisor, vSAN provides high-performance storage optimized for all types of workloads, simplifying operations and enhancing scalability.

The Power of VMware vSphere Foundation

VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF) is a workload engine built to support both traditional and modern applications. It integrates vSphere for compute virtualization, vSphere Kubernetes Service for containerized workloads, and vSAN for storage virtualization, delivering an enterprise-class HCI solution. VVF also includes advanced operations management and diagnostics powered by VMware Cloud Foundation Operations . VVF optimizes IT infrastructure, unifies management, boosts productivity, and lowers overall costs. With seamless integration into VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), the leading private cloud platform, VVF provides a clear path to private cloud readiness.
