Running Sharepoint Services on a Mac with VMware Fusion
Robert Grissom over at the GSR Solutions Blog has a cool post up on how to run Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 on a Mac using VMware Fusion.
He’s using VMware Fusion to run a Windows Server 2003 virtual machine, on top of which he is installing Sharepoint Server, before deploying it to production. All from the safety of his MacBook Pro.
I’m looking forward to seeing if he’s going to run the production service on a VM on an Xserve, running Fusion! Wouldn’t that be the coolest?
He notes that this is going to be the first in a series, so it might be worthwhile to subscribe to his blog if you’re an IT professional who administers Sharepoint, but runs a Mac as your weapon of computing choice.
I'm running Win Server 2003 with full blown MOSS, SQL Server, and Visual Studio in a VMware image. I love it much better than Virtual PC (shudder).

No, it would only be "the coolest" if we could manage XServe hosts using Virtual Center. Until then, it's only cute.
So, when WILL we be able to use XServe as a host in Virtual Center?

It should run really good, I've had very good luck installing WSS 3.0 stand alone with VS 2008 to be able to develop for SharePoint.
I also use a Mac at home, but my 'day' job is a developer for Sharepoint. With Fusion (especially the latest release) I'm able to work at home while not having to have a seperate PC box to run Sharepoint.
I'm in the process of setting up MOSS 2007 on Server 2008 with SQl 2008 on a VM, and so far it's doing awesome.

Share Point has traditionally been designed to work very well on Windows clients, specifically on Internet Explorer in Windows. The reason for that is pretty simple; much of the rich functionality that Share Point exposes through IE comes via ActiveX controls, which are supported only when using Internet Explorer on Windows. There are some known problems when a user is accessing a Share Point site from a Mac. We list them here with some suggestions for workarounds. It is generally suggested that users use Firefox which behaves better than other browsers.
