vSphere 8 Update 1 Achieves Initial Availability

Originally introduced on March 14th, today we are excited to announce the initial availability of the vSphere 8 Update 1 release. It is now available for download. This is a production-quality release of vSphere which brings enhanced operational efficiency for admins, supercharged performance for higher-end AI/ML workloads, and elevated security across the environment.

5/11/23 Update– vSphere 8 Update 1 has achieved full General Availability. Please refer to this blog post for the details.

Let’s get into the details:

Required activities such as host and cluster configurations, updates, and upgrades can take significant time away from running mission-critical workloads. With vSphere 8 Update 1, admins can reduce repetitive manual tasks and the time needed to maintain their environment. vSphere 8 Update 1 adds exciting capabilities, such as VMware vSphere® Configuration ProfilesTM, integration of VMware SkylineTM Health DiagnosticsTM with VMware vCenter®, heterogenous vGPU Profiles on the same GPU, and upgrades to vSphere Green Metrics.

With the rapid increase in AI/ML model sizes and complexity, processing times are increasing tremendously, and an increasing number of GPUs are needed for these workloads. vSphere 8 Update 1 dramatically improves the performance of AI/ML workloads with support for NVIDIA AI Enterprise 3.1, the software layer of the NVIDIA AI platform, and NVIDIA NVSwitch™ for improved scalability. NVSwitch connects up to 8 GPUs per host and up to 8 GPUs to the same VM, with very high-speed communication between the GPUs (up to 900GB/s bidirectional speed with NVIDIA® NVLink™ on NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPU).

Environment security has become one of the key challenges organizations face today. vSphere 8 Update 1 release enhances the security of your mission-critical workloads by adding in support for Okta Federated Identity Management for vCenter, support for Fault Tolerance of VMs employing vTPM and ESXi Quick Boot Support on Servers with TPM 2.0 Chips.
