HP CIM drivers – Nice features for storage

The latest Computer Information Model (CIM) drivers from HP now allow you to see the storage hardware configuration and status. For example, the screen shot below shows a single logical volume on the host, configured as RAID 5. One of the drives has been replaced, and as you can see the RAID 5 volume is currently recovering:

This is especially useful when you are using a storage appliance like the VSA, and want to see what is happening at the underlying physical storage layer. Since the underlying physical storage devices are abstracted into a shared NFS datastore in vSphere by the VSA, its not always easy to see what's going on under the covers. However the new HP CIM drivers give us this insight via the vSphere client Hardware Status tab.
