VMworld will be in full swing two weeks from today, and from where I sit, it feels like it is already here.
The plans for the Community Lounge are coming together, and I have even seen the floor plan. It’s going to be really cool. We’ll be in the hang space, which is in the same area with the Solutions Exchange, and we’ll keep the same hours as the expo.
We will open the Lounge to bloggers, as usual, as well as for community vMeetups and a public-access community TV. The vMeetups are informal gatherings in our Lounge where you can talk about any topic relevant to VMworld, they can be booked in 30-minute increments, and we allow one talk per person or company per day. Then there are the podcasts, on VMware TV streaming channel. You can run your own podcast show from the Lounge and stream it live on VMworld TV. We have a preliminary schedule published, and you can book your slot at vmware.com/go/vmworld-community
John and I have the final authority in selecting topics and allocating times, but you can reason with us. Now is probably better than in two weeks, because the two of us will be actually quite busy at the show, running several hours of live streaming programming from the VMware TV streaming station and potentially from other events. We want to make sure that for those of you who are not going to Las Vegas can get a lot of live coverage from the show.
In other news, we have announced today growing momentum in desktop virtualization in U.S. Federal agencies with VMware View. The Department of Veterans Affairs Acquisition Academy and an Agency of the U.S. Department of Defense are going to use VMware View to quickly provision, deploy, secure, and protect sensitive data, by centrally storing desktop images and data on servers behind agency firewalls.
