Guest post: Preliminary Results from the Developer Survey

VMware’s Ecosystem Engineering group has been surveying developers to better understand the tools and interfaces that developers are currently  using.  (See  the August 9th, “Next Generation Development Tools” post.)

To those of you that completed the Developer Survey, thank you!  Your feedback is important to our API, SDK and developer tools planning.

If you have not had a chance to try the Developer Survey, please take a few minutes to help us better understand your environment and preferences.

The first week of results have been tallied and we’re getting some great data that we’d like to share. When it comes to programming languages, there is a broad distribution of popularity, and on average, people indicated that they use 2.5 languages frequently.

In addition to the options above, people wrote in:  Groovy, JavaScript, VBScript, DOS Batch and R.

Just in case you’re curious, 14% of people use both Bash and PowerShell frequently.

We'll post results from some of the other survey questions over the coming days, so check back soon.

Please make sure that your development environment is represented by participating in the Developer Survey.
