A week in virtualization

As you know, yesterday we have released a number of new Cloud Infrastructure products, among them vSphere 5, vCloud Director 1.5, vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5, and vShield 5. Our CEO Paul Maritz and CTO Steve Herrod announced the release in a live webcast that was attended by dozens of thousands of people. If you were there, good for you! All the news is of course linked front and center on vmware.com

On Facebook, the vCloud team has shared a link to a number of technical white papers covering what’s new in vSphere 5. You can find it at facebook.com/vmwarevcloud

Early bird discount for VMworld Copenhagen is still available until July 29th, so hurry if you plan on going.

Also, the VMworld team is inviting everyone to send in their videos to be used as part of the opening keynote session at VMworld this year. Go to vmworld.com and click on the blue button on the right which says “Be part of the VMworld Opening General Session” to find out how you can participate.

The VMware View team has shared a blog post about some helpful tools for View admins on their Facebook page. Also, they posted a link to the upcoming VMware View Bootcamp, starting next Tuesday. You will find the link on facebook.com/vmwareview

View Bootcamp is a series of nine 40-or-so minute videos, released daily Monday through Friday on VMTN community forums. Each day, the presenter of the video will be available for Q&A about their piece. Also, at the end of the bootcamp, all registered participants will receive a copy of an e-book that will contain the full contents of the bootcamp. Learn more and register for your copy of the e-book at vmware.com/go/viewbootcamp

And as usual, the upcoming days and weeks will be as exciting as ever, with a number of cool events happening in the world of virtualization.

VMware vCloud will be hosting a Twitter “cloudchat” on Wednesday, July 20.  This is meant to fuel dialogue and to help build a community around vCloud topics. At 11am PT on July 20th @vCloud will pose a few questions using the #cloudchat hashtag to get the conversation rolling.

If you want to participate, simply respond to the posed questions or provide your own commentary on the topic while tagging your tweets with the #cloudchat hashtag

The VMware Forum is in Minneapolis on the 21st, after which there will be a brief pause until August. The web page with details is linked from vmware.com homepage – in the grey box that says “VMware Forum 2011” on the lower left.

We have nine more webinars coming up over the next couple of weeks, covering a variety of topics from quantifying the business value of VMware View to virtualizing Oracle and Microsoft in Spanish and Portuguese and more. They all are listed at webcasts.vmware.com

Our friends at EMC are hosting some live webinars covering EMC solutions for VMware, a couple of them are featuring our very own VP of Product Marketing, Bogomil Balkansky. Go check them out at vmware.com/go/emcwebinars

The following VMUGs are meeting over the next seven days: London, Louisville, Albany, Central Ohio, South Germany, St. Louis, Sydney, and Iowa. New England VMUG Summer Slammer is also coming up on the 21st. That’s an event you won’t want to miss. Aside from a packed schedule, there will also be free lobster and steak at the end for all.
