#vSANChat Wrap-Up: VMware and HPE!

The vSAN team also hosted our monthly #vSANChat on Twitter! Each #vSANChat is a way for you to ask questions and give feedback directly to the product teams, and we love spending the hour chatting on Twitter and getting to know our subject matter experts! This month we were joined by Brent Sullivan, John Shields and George Chang to discuss VMware vSAN and HPE.

Introduction: Welcome to the vSAN/HPE #vSANChat. The purpose of today’s chat will be to learn about vSAN’s collaboration with HPE and how it is revolutionizing virtualization economics and creating new efficiencies for our clients. (link) We’ll be asking a series of questions to get the conversation started, but we encourage you to ask your own questions at any time during the chat. Use the #vSANChat hashtags in your questions & to follow along. (link)

Q1: What are 3 key facts to know about VMware’s partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE)? (link)

John: Only 3?! The ability for us to work together on development versus independent development the meets at the customer’s datacenter is critical and enables functionality that would otherwise require huge investments of time and effort by customers. We get unique automation and integration capabilities the enable faster standup times and workload deployments and we are able to develop tools to enable our sales teams and our partner community.

Brent: 1. Relationship is over 20 years strong, 2. More VMware runs on HPE than any other server, and 3. vSAN is certified on Synergy, ProLiant, Apollo, and Edgeline servers.

Q2: How do vSAN and HPE come together to optimize hybrid IT delivery? (link)

John: HPE and VMware work together to validate our solutions. Like the HPE Synergy vSAN Ready nodes. Dedicated, validated infrastructure designed to work together, not just put together.

George: HPE is the WW Server leader and vSAN is #1 in HCI, together we are bringing the best of both companies in helping our customers start their hybrid cloud journey

Brent: First, we come together in understanding our customers’ needs. Second, we come together in the lab Third, we come together to educate customers and our common partners in the channel. Fourth, we come together with implementation services and on-going support.

Q3: What results can we expect when choosing a standards-based solution from HPE and vSAN? (link)

John: Tested, validated, and lifecycle managed to ensure consistent on-going delivery that customers can depend on. As new versions of software and hardware are released the companies work together to keep customers current. The combined efforts between the two companies create many opportunities to tune performance, create best practices, and avoid issues before customers get hands-on with the solutions.

George: With vSAN and HPE, you will get a consistent operational model across your infrastructure from your on-prem datacenter, the cloud, and to the edge.

Brent: Since our engineering teams work together to define systems for specific workloads, you can expect less stress and better business performance.

Q4: What do the HPE vSAN ReadyNodes do for software-defined storage? (link)

John: vSAN Ready nodes with HPE Synergy customers get a highly composable set of resources that can include up to 200 disks per frame and combine HDD and SSD. These storage resources can then be shared across numerous compute modules within the frame instead of just a single server

Brent: In addition to great performance, our management integrations ensure you get the most out of the system with the least operational expense.

Q5: What should we know before configuring HPE Synergy infrastructure for vSAN? (link)

John: One of the things that surprises many users is how much vSAN storage can be made available in a single HPE Synergy vSAN Ready node frame and how flexible the configuration can be. Know that is straight forward! We have documented best practices and reference architectures that can walk you through every step from design, to ordering, and deployment. We can also factory integrate and drop ship to your datacenter. No limits! Planning well to take advantage of all that storage is critical to an efficient use of the resources. Check out all of our joint RAs and Whitepapers here.

Brent: Our alliance can help. We’ve done engineering work to automate parts of the process and HPE Pointnext and our channel partners are also there to help.

Q6: What do customers using VMware Cloud Foundation on HPE Synergy in HPE GreenLake get? (link)

John: They get world-class end to end management and support with utility pricing on gear they don’t have to own but do get to keep in their datacenter. Super easy!

Brent: Composability and Software-Defined are made for each other and made for making operations easy. Customers get that, and pay only for what they use

George: Ask Porsche! Read here.

Q7: What are the benefits of HPE Synergy Composable Infrastructure + VMware Cloud Foundation, powered by vSAN? (link)

John: This is where we truly shine together! An infrastructure that can change as workloads demand, keeping utilization maximized. Keeping extra hardware that isn’t being used is costly and never ready when needed. HPE Synergy and VCF with vSAN avoid that problem for you.

George: HPE Synergy with VCF provides the perfect platform for an enterprise-ready private cloud solution that is flexible/future proof, agile/simple to deploy, and efficient by employing more automation.

Brent: HPE composable infrastructure and VMware’s software defined approach to infrastructure are made for each other. The customer get the most flexible and capable system and can respond to rapidly to changing business needs.

And that’s a wrap! Don’t forget to follow VMware vSAN on Twitter and stay tuned for our next #vSANChat!
