As we ring in the new year, we wanted to spotlight vSAN news and updates over the past 12 innovative, inspiring and award-winning months. So, without further ado, here’s the best of vSAN 2022.
Announcing vSAN+
In July, we announced VMware vSAN +, our new, premier hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) offering that extends vSAN’s capabilities to now deliver cloud-connected services, which helps IT administrators to centralize management and enhance the efficiency of their vSAN environments. Delivered as a flexible subscription-based offering, vSAN + helps accelerate customers’ digital transformation by bringing the benefits of the cloud to their existing on-prem infrastructure and workloads. As a bonus, we recently announced new additions to vSAN +.
Announcing vSAN 8 with Express Storage Architecture (ESA)
In August, we were thrilled to announce the launch of vSAN 8 with vSAN Express Storage Architecture (ESA), which ushered the next generation of HCI software. It provides customers with a future-ready infrastructure that supports modern storage devices and delivers up to a 4x performance boost. Additionally, customers will experience up to 40% lower TCO through highly performant and efficient data protection and enhanced data compression with up to 4x greater efficiency. Customers will also see increased availability due to a new storage pool construct that provides smaller fault domains, faster resync times and native snapshots delivering up to 100x faster operations. The good news is vSAN 8 with ESA is now generally available.
Foundations of vSAN Architecture Video Series
2022 saw a lot of great content with the Foundations of vSAN Architecture video series. Covering everything from “What is vSAN?” “What is ESA?” to “vSAN’s Approach to Resilient Data Storage” and everything in between, this is an excellent series to help you get to know all things vSAN as we enter a new year. Five Times a Winner! VMware vSAN wins CRN’s Product of the Year Award for Software Defined Storage
Hip, hip, hooray! VMware vSAN was the proud recipient of CRN’s Product of the Year in the Software Defined Storage category. Since 2014, this is the fifth time that vSAN has won the award, and we couldn’t be more excited that it was for vSAN+. Since being introduced in only July of this year, vSAN+ has already seen rapid adoption by enterprises for its performance, efficiency, resilience and agility on next-generation storage devices. What a great 2022!
HCI Systems Powered by VMware vSAN Lead the Market in Q1 and Q2 of 2022, According to IDC
Every quarter since 2018, VMware vSAN has been the market leader of HCI systems, according to IDC Quarterly Worldwide Converged Systems Tracker. And the first half of 2022 was no different. According to the IDC Quarter Worldwide Converged System Tracker, VMware continues to lead the HCI market for Q2 2022 (the second half of the 2022 report had not yet been reported by IDC). In Q2 2022, IDC reported that systems running VMware accounted for 41.56% of the market share, holding more than the following four HCI software vendors combined. Also, it marked the third consecutive quarter that systems running VMware were the sole solution to exceed $1 Billion in revenue for the quarter. It demonstrates the strong validation in the market for the adoption of VMware HCI powered by vSAN.
The Answer to App Modernization: VMware HCI powered by vSAN
Today, businesses face the challenge of delivering modern apps and transforming legacy apps for their future. Trying to support these disparate applications on conventional infrastructure is a complex, time-intensive process that limits agility and does not allow teams to meet the needs quickly and efficiently. Running modern apps on HCI powered by vSAN provides a consistent operational platform that can support all kinds of apps and keep pace with changing requirements. The VMware solutions lay the foundation for hybrid and cloud-native efforts. It delivers integrated support for diverse application needs and seamless deployment on-premises and public cloud environments.
