Welcome to the #StorageMinute series where we deliver key topics via bite-size content. In this edition, we look at how vSAN provides cloud-connected health checks to vSAN clusters.
Environments are constantly changing, and are subject to simple misconfigurations, or device incompatibilities and errors. Having an intelligent, cloud-connected method for monitoring the health and well-being of an environment simply makes sense. The video demonstration below gives a brief overview of how the user interacts with the vSAN integrated health checks and shows the options for remediation.
#StorageMinute: vSAN Health Checks
How does it work?
The vSAN integrated health check mechanism uses an innovative cloud-connected framework. This enables VMware to push new health checks and remediation details to existing vSAN installations without the need for users to update the software running in their environment. This cloud-connected framework is extremely powerful, as it can detect and alert you to conditions and hardware unique to that environment. This capability is provided to all environments participating in the VMware Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP). For an example of a real scenario in which the new health check framework was able to detect and remediate an issue, see the blog post: Health Checks – Delivering a more Intelligent vSAN and vSphere. The integrated health checks used in recent editions of vSAN is an excellent example of how running the latest edition of vSAN can make day-to-day administration of an environment easier, and more resilient.
